Apple Can Go **** Itself

Posted:
in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
I've just upgraded to 6.0.2. of iTunes, and please remember that I've been a Mac user since 1986, so don't shoot me down just yet...

When I go to my iTunes Library I'm now greeted with a listing below my regular Library for ITMS lists. This is an abomination of longtime Apple usability and streaks of commercialism beyond the pale.

Apple has just sold 14 MILLION iPods in 3 months, wasn't that enough you greedy bastards? I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER PENNY ON ITUNES, NOR WILL I EVER BUY ANOTHER APPLE PRODUCT UNTIL THIS FEATURE IS REMOVED.

I didn't ask for it, and it's like a lameass salesguy calling at the door at 2am. Get rid of this feature or your longtime support will be gone.

Let me just say for the record, having spent 20 years using Mac's, Apple is becoming too commercial, with their products becoming more bland by each release. If you guys in Cupertino are listenning, please stop the nonsense and do remember usability.

Again, Apple can seriously go **** itself if it takes the route.

Well, the 20 years' experience didn't teach you to look at the features available in an app?

Take a look next to the EQ button - or press Cmd-Shift-M

Yeah, I did notice that but it smacks of intrusion.

So let me get this straight... they have a new mini-view so that you can see your LIbrary at the same time you're looking at something in the Store... which is handy... and you can turn it off with a keystroke or menu item...

    ...and this is intrusive. Okay.

Here I thought it was "look at the neat new feature that we've enabled by default so you don't miss it, but you can turn off if you like!". Silly me.

*shrug* You're welcome to your opinion of course, but it feels more than a little overreactive to me.

Are the Parental controls new in 6.0.2?

They have the store so you can look at the store while you're listening to your music, not the other way around. It's not about convenience to the user - it's about more sales.

Luckily you can turn off that WMP-like crapola that they put there.

My feelings on this is that Apple is encroaching on a commercial factor within iTunes that will not serve iTunes better.

YOUR (and do remember that's SINGULAR) approach to music is your YOUR choice that you make towards your music. There should be absolutely no intrusion towards that whatsoever, i.e. beyond self-choice.

If I feel like buying new music then I'll visit ITMS and see what they have to offer. Likewise a button that allows me to see what Apple recommends through the use of a customised database just isn't on. This feature should be something like, Show Me Some Recommendations or the like from a menu item. It may be a small feature to you, but it is a default to NEW ITUNES ADOPTERS AND WILL BE SEEN, MUCH AS MY EARLIER REACTION WAS, give or take that little button.

I'll say it again. Apple is becoming too commercial in their approach. They've ****ed up Garageband beyond recognition to a product that caters for the latest and greatest idea of Podcasting, based purely on the success of the iPod.

Apple is at a very precarious location right now. They'll either balls it up or go in the right direction, which (in my view, being the correct direction) is towards aiming products at human beings, not consumers.

Let me give you as an example. They've just release new iMacs that in all essence say to those that have just spent considerable sums of money over the past 3 months on PPC versions of those: "THANKS FOR YOUR MONEY, BUT HERE ARE WAY BETTER PRODUCTS".

Apple should have at least released a 23" iMac to compensate, but they didn't.

Er, Gene, you could *always* keep listening while you shopped, unless you clicked on a preview. Enter Library, make selection, hit Play, go to Music Store... it keeps playing.

Being able to *refer* to your library while you shop, however, that's new. And useful.

I for one welcome our new iTunes overlords! (Said tongue in cheek as iTunes and iTMS slowly takes over Apple...)

*bing bing bing* One keystroke, and you never have to see it again. The problem again is... ?

I never show the Artwork, or the Browser, or anything else, just playlists and main pane. I like it simple and minimalized. Others like it showing every gadget. Luckily it's customizable for what each user wants.

Or was that not the point of your argument, awarenessengine?

I'm not particularly thrilled with some directions Apple has been heading recently, but acting like a company interested in making money isn't one of them. If they were truly invasive, you wouldn't be *ABLE* to turn it off.

And that, my friend, is how a company makes money.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Apple are just like any other large (or small) corporation. They must innovate and stay at least up-to-date if not ahead of the competition or they will go down.

I really do commiserate with those who have recently purchased new G5 iMacs, but that is just the way of all things in computer land... once you've got it out of the box it is already old technology.

Still, there's plenty of life left in the G5's and personally I'd wait to see how these 1st generation Intel iMacs perform technically before putting down my money.

Hey, I wouldn't have known this either. I can see his outrage, but I like the suggestions. Ha, I see Apple's plan now, to see more of my music I must go buy a new Cinema Display. Not a bad ploy at all. But I am so excited of being an Appleteer I'd allow it... wait.... yup I'm cool with it.

And hell, they got me over with the Wynton Marsalis ad. Absolutely perfecto!

Thinking about it, it's like complaining about Dashboard being there and hogging power from other apps.

Wow, I'm completely torn on who I should side with.

God, I'm trully amazed at the lunacy of Apple loyalists.

The fact that Jobs got the boss of the LARGEST tech company on earth to wear a bunny suit has got to tell you something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!! For God's sake man, get real.

I think it's a case where it's a feature a lot of people might like so Apple has to have it on by default to begin with. Shame a lot of people will miss the menu item to turn it off because it is quite annoying.

It's not hype, it's a button, and it's real easy.

Yeah, let's make things all come down to a button. There's a button on Microsoft's taskbar called Start - look where that got them.

Again, too commercial, too obscene, too far from reality.

If I've lost the plot then so has Apple and Intel.

While I also find this new "feature" to be annoying, I've got to laugh at this obsurd overreaction. It's not like iTunes physically reached into your wallet and took some money & your sister's phone number for 'late use' for crying out loud.

I was angered myself, until I figured how to turn it off.

But why the hell isn't it in the iTunes preferences?!!

Way to overreact, oh, just a tiny hair, buddy.

Yeah, I think it would be nice if left off by default, but very little harm done. You'd have thought Steve kidnapped your Mac and sent you a picture of it with a scratch!
