But I was thinking...maybe this design still has legs and that all this talk about a 1GHz Powerbook is not even around the corner.
If claims that the 800 is faster than a Pentium 1.7 is true, then perhaps there isn't that sense of urgency given some of the other issue i.e. screen res, vid card have been addressed.

It is the same price as a 400MHZ Pismo was....with 64MB or RAM I believe, an 8MB video set and a 6GB drive. The technology has gotten much better and 2499 is the same really......
Remember that it is a Pro laptop, not a consumer one. There are MANY wintels that cost this much and more. The middle config looks great........
Wow. My Pismo might be getting old, but it still feels fast to me. I just have to stay away from some of these 'blazing fast' new machines until I'm sure I won't be jealous.
It seems, from a purely anecdotal standpoint, that a lot of Pismo owners are just hanging on to their machines. [envy]I would too, if I had one[/envy] And realizing this, Apple has targeted not pentiums but Pismos with their latest x% faster bar-graphs. The new Ti is supposed to be over 200% faster than a Pismo 500 :eek:
That's right. No more IR port. No one wins when a feature is removed and nothing replaces it. Sorry. Hopefully they will have the Airport/Bluetooth card ready soon...
Wow, I am very impressed. The new PowerBook has everything I would want in a laptop. It is truly an amazing laptop now...better than any PC I can think of off the top of my head. Man, maybe I can coax my parents into getting one for my sister when she goes to college...would love to see this thing in person.
1280 x 852...that's really nice, but it could be a tad higher. Still nice though. And I'm really happy about the inclusion of the Radeon Mobility 7500...mmm, gaming goodness. Could've been 64 though.
Other than those two gripes this is a serious winner. Wow, to think how they fit all of that in a one inch thin package.
An airtooth/blueport combo-card would be cool. You can always buy the little USB dongle thingy, but I dunno how great that is for a laptop.
But seriously, IR ports were never any good. Never met anyone who actually used them, and most anyone who ever talked about using them had complaints about one thing or another. Good ridance.
I am extremely impressed as well. The screen rez seems well enough for me, I just wish they had opted for the newer radeon fire mobility or whatever it was, or at least 64 megs of video memory, but then again, this is a terrific step up in its own.. Now just to convince my parents to let me take out a loan on this baby.
The information on Apple's web site states that the L3 cache is DDR sdram. Hasn't this been discussed in other forums. Shouldn't this be L3 cache DDR sram?
Matsu, if you are envious of Pismo owners, would you like to buy mine? I am looking to upgrade to one of these actually. How much would anyone reckon a Pismo going for right now?
Thanks guys, but I can probably only offer you a lot less than you want for it. I should say, had I bought myself A new Pismo when they came out (or even when they were clearing out the last ones after the Ti intro) I wouldn't want to sell it just yet. If I were in OS9, I'd probably wait untill 10.2 to get into a new mac. I'm not in OS anything right now, and I'll only buy when I can jump comfortably into a speedy OSX machine, I've got 4 months of access to this lab left and I intend to milk it -- especially now that the only two other people I used to see in here are gone for the summer. I sure hope we see 10.2 plus (slightly) faster hardware by Sept. I really don't want to buy a Windows machine, I really don't want to pay Apple prices. Damn!

The prices are back to their old levels, though. But still... those are sweet machines.
