To buy or not to buy... a MBP

Early in Dec, my 7 month old 15" PB was stolen (along with my Canon 300D Rebel). I didn't have insurance (stupid me), but I want to be mobile again.

I know I didn't use the PB for it's full potential, but I love the love of the PB and I like spending money on myself. So now the MBP is out, I'm trying to decide do I buy now or do I wait 6 to 8 months for a refresh. If I wait I will not be mobile and I can tell you it's annoying to say the least.

So, do I buy now or wait? If I wait what should I do, check eBay for a cheap iBook?

Depends what your primary uses would be... most pro apps aren't Universal Binary native yet.

Plus, it's a Rev A... known to be a bit buggy in many cases...

Unless you need it now, I'd say wait... if you can find a cheap G4 iBook to tide you over until more apps are native and/or Rev B when the quirks are smoothed out, you'll probably feel like you made a wiser investment.

    YMMV

The only pro apps I'd be looking at initially would be apperture and Photoshop to go hand-in-hand with my digital photography.

I was thinking over the weekend that I should wait. I would love to get a MBP, but the potential for bugs is high. The coolness factor has subsided, and I'm thinking more clearly now.

I thought of looking on eBay to find a iBook or something. That should tie me over. At worst I have my linux box at home, but that is more of a server.

wgauvin, what model MacBook would you buy? And if you went the route of the short-term ebay machine, what kinda specs would you go for and how long would you wait until upgrading?

This is like when I bought my 6100/60 Power Mac,it was the first generation and a lot of software wasn't ready for it. I thought that waiting for the apps would be ok, but i was wrong, by the time the importants apps were ported a lot of new/cheap macs were available that my Power Mac. I think you should stay PowerPC for a while
