Probably. What does that mean for updated features? I know things like FW800 and modem are out of the question but if their optical manufacturers can come out with a DL drive before final shipping, that would be great.

    Wow...news sites are slow.

It's been well known for sometime that the MacBooks on the showfloor were prototypes.

I doubt they'll add a DL drive. The specs are already public and people that bought the computer have had access to this info and have agreed to buy the MacBook in that configuration. Unless Apple has a change of heart, the MacBook won't ship with DL drives.

The remaining month will be spent optimizing battery life and fixing any other outstanding issue.

The MacBook Pros cannot have DL SuperDrive unless the hardware inside was dramatically moved around.

The SuperDrive Dual-Layer is too thick to fit in the MacBook Pro's case because there are other parts below where the SuperDrive is.

The only things that will change (IMO) are speeds of performance tests (positively). Like how people are reporting terrible iTunes rip speeds (6.0 versus 20-something on PB's) because iTunes has most likely not been optimized with the hardware. Expect to see better numbers when the MacBook Pros come out.

It would be nice if they offered a 3rd option for the faster 2.0 Duo chips. Acer and other companies will be shipping with the faster chips. Maybe that will be reseved for the 17" MacBookPro.

Just wish Apple had the same parity with other PC manufacturer's concerning the chips speeds. they are now using the same chips.

I imagine Apple chose not to go with the 2.0 GHz chips is because a)They'd use up too much power and give MBP's a bad rep as battery juice mongerers, b)The 2.0 GHz chip probably generates a lot more heat, which means noisy fans and c)It's probably not as stable as the 1.67/1.83 GHz chips in a notebook casing due to heat/energy issues.

Obviously a desktop all-in-one can handle it, but it looks like a notebook can't, in Steve's eyes.

well if you get the hankering, down the road, you can tear your mac book pro apart and remove the dual-core chips board and replace it with something faster you can buy from www.pricewatch.com

The Acer notebook is dual 2ghz, ships with 1600gpu and gives 6ish hours of battery life.

Yeah, but who knows how they're measuring that, right?

It probably also sounds like an industrial fan is going off, weighs a lot and is very thick.
