hi there

i have a beigh g3 300 . it has only pci slots and i was hoping i could upgrade my video card . i have investigated the ati raedon and the ati radeon 7000 both only work in os 9 . i would like to have os x functionality . the recent driver upgrade for these cards apparently doesn't address the os x problem.

any help or suggestions would be wounderfull.

    hi there guys

apparently with either of the raedon cards i mentioned os x won't boot. ati also addressed this by saying that only blue and whites (new world systems) will boot with this video card and os x. ati does say the card will work fine in os 9.0 perhaps the issue is only when duel monitor support is needed from the card itself. your posts suggest otherwise, is there some trick or tip i need to know to get os x to boot.

    thanks for the help

    hi there guys

i had another thought . if the cards are older perhaps the older driver works with both os' and then updating to a newer driver (not the current one ) causes the problem. what version drivers are you guys using?

    thanks for the help

I added an orginal Radeon PCI to my Beige G3 266 Rev A. in December, and it was plug n play. The only side affects is that the monitor won't turn on until you see the starting services screen (and in 9 640x480 until Mac OS 9 screen).

other then that, it's been perfect. oh, don't go for the VE or the 7000 the orginal is alot better.

Just bought a Radion 7000 for my beige g3, and like it. Don't run OSX yet, so haven't had screen problems, but DVD doesn't work. Went to tech support for ATI, and the link I need in the FAQ doesn't work. Anyone know how to get DVD working, or know of this problem? BTW: Finally replaced my 3DFx Voodoo 5500 with the radion 7000; less ram, single processor, but still faster.

I have upgrade my beige G3 333 with a proformance 3 + of 16 MB. It's much better in 2D and 3 d than the rage pro. But i do not run OS X on this mac.

You should bettet buy a PCI radeon.

Believe-it-or-not I have higher frame rates in Quake, Quake TA, Unreal, and Elite force with the 7000 (numbers speak for themselves). However, the main factor for replacing my card is that there will be no more driver updates, and therefore I don't foresee any DVD abilities in the future. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> I still have plans for the card though. One thing the Voodoo was better at was 2D acceleration (esp. Photoshop) I will still use it in a 8500 with a G3 upgrade card. Don't get me wrong, the 3DFx Voodoo is still a great card [if you don't need DVD]
