With all the talk of iBooks, Minis....any speculation if the eMac will got Intel? working at a University, we have around 40 of these on our campus...

Would be great if Apple would at least disclose when they would begin shipping all new models. I know it would kill sales for existing products, but some of work on three year leases for buying equipment, and well, this year, I have an entire campus of Macs to replace...

The eMac has been MIA since October:

It leaves a conspicuous gap between the Mini and the iMac, so it seems reasonable to me that we'll see Intel machines aimed at a similar market, but they would more likely be cheaper iMacs.

Actually, the eMac is still around for the Education Market. Pricing starting at $649. Apples offers a lot of great products/deals for the education market. Apple Mobile Learning Labs come out well below similiar offerings from Dell.

My mistake. Strange that they don't seem to have any non-refurb ones, even in the Education store, though.

An intel emac would be interesting. But would having intel emacs versus intel imacs be benifical to a university? If so why?

Primarily cost. An all in one model with a CRT is a better deal, than a LCD screen. (think MacMini with a head and keyboard/mouse for $100 more).

Over three years, we have not had a single hardware failure with the eMacs. Other models of Macs over that same period, we have had an array ot hardware issues. I have my fingers crossed for a Intel eMac.

Dear God no! You won't see an intel eMac. Apple have been trying to kill them for months, but education don't see anything in the range as a direct replacement. No-one in education wants a Mini, and the current iMacs are just a bit too costly compared to the competition. Here in Europe, CRTs are going to be costly items for OEMs when WEEE compliance comes rolling around. My bet is on a single-core 17" iMac for around £500, with minimal HD/optical drive spec, and maybe ditch the camera and remote if that can save them anything.
