How much iMac for Aperture?

I want to buy a new iMac (Intel, of course). I want it to be able to handle Aperture. Does anyone have enough experience or have you read about how much Ram or how big of a hard drive I should get? Is 1.5 gb of Ram enough? And, will I need the 500 gb hard drive? I would rather stop short of the G5 Power Mac. Thanks

RAM-- right now, with just about 50 images in Aperature, I'm using 235 mb just launching the thing before doing any editing. Jumped up to 300 mb as soon as I started editing/viewing with magnifier.

HD space-- RAW & TIFF files can be huge-- I primarily have scans from 35 mm slides, and they're all roughly 50 MB each.

put in huge amounts of memory.

Aperture is impossible on my powerbook g4 1.5 with 2 gigs of ram.

It works fine (except for the bugs) on my dual g5 2.7

I didn't think there was any iMac with enough for Aperture as of yet.

Maybe I should just be happy with Lightroom and forget it.....
