So, The powerbutton light on my flatscreen is constantly blinking. It blinks in a pattern:

short, short, long, pause, repeat

Apple support says I need to call in for support. Is there anything I can do to avoid sitting on hold forever like last time I called?

It just started happening out of nowhere.

i have no idea what the problem is, but i do recommend calling apple during non-peak hours. basically not from 4-8pm. you shouldn't have to wait more than a few minutes.

    or maybe get a speakerphone?

It's the backlight inverter going bad..

The first symptom of a backlight inverter going out is that the power light on your Mac starts blinking. Different types of blinking indicates different issues, but the specific blinking that indicates a backlight issue is two short pulses followed by one long pulse.
