eMac and DVDs

My brother is in the market for a new Mac and I have been telling him to go with the eMac. While he likes the eMac, he says it is not for him because he is convinced that since the eMac does not come with a DVD-ROM that he cannot watch DVD movies. Is he right, or is DVD-ROM something else?

Yeah, that's right. You need a DVD-ROM drive to watch DVD's on your Mac. CD-ROM and CD-RW drives can't read DVD's.

Tell him to purchase the eMac and wait for the right DVD Recorder(Firewire) best of both worlds

If your brother wants a good, basic Mac, he can't beat the eMac. But the minute he wants to do a little more with it, he'll wish he had the iMac.

the .edu model still has the DVDROM/CDRW (combo)drive. If either one of you is a student or faculty or knows someone who is, you are in like flynn.

You know, it's not like Apple checks to see is you're actually a university student before selling you their wares from the education store.

    Just go to store.apple.com,

    click on education,

click on higher education faculty, staff and students,

put in your state and city,

pick a school from the list,

    and...

    and...

that's it, buy whatever you like at a slightly reduced price, which more often then not, ends up being more than what you could buy it from the likes of outpost.com or mac warehouse because apple has to add sales tax.

    ciao,

    michael
