Benchmarking survey

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
I'm currently benchmarking as many systems as I can get my paws on, in the hope that I can convince my boss of the power of a dual 1GHz system.

I'm using AltiVec Fractal Carbon Demo, which is available from:

<a href="http://daugerresearch.com/fractaldemos/altivecfractalcarbon.html"; target="_blank">http://daugerresearch.com/fractaldemos/altivecfractalcarbon.html</a>;

I'm using the default settings (checking that the MP code is set correctly).

I'm trying to get benchmark results for:

? (Quicksilver 2002)

1000DP Power Mac G4 [7052.6MFlops]

933 Power Mac G4

800 Power Mac G4 [2865.9MFlops]

? (Quicksilver)

800DP Power Mac G4

867 Power Mac G4

733 Power Mac G4

? (Digital Audio)

733 Power Mac G4

667 Power Mac G4

533DP Power Mac G4

533 Power Mac G4

466 Power Mac G4

Mystic

500DP Power Mac G4

450DP Power Mac G4

400 Power Mac G4

Sawtooth

500 Power Mac G4

450 Power Mac G4

400 Power Mac G4 [1351.7MFlops]

350 Power Mac G4

Yikes!

350 Power Mac G4

Yosemite

450 Power Macintosh G3

400 Power Macintosh G3

350 Power Macintosh G3

300 Power Macintosh G3

If anybody fancies benchmarking their system I'd certainly appreciate it!

The best I got on an 867 G4 was 3339 MF...

thats with the default settings ...

But if you want this to be remotly accurate you'll have to specify more info about how exactly the test should be run.

I'm a recent PC convert and have a few question in line with this thread.

    1.) What is a megaflop?

2.) How do you benchmark your system to get those megaflop results.

    3.) What is good/bad/ok?

Thanks in advance. By the way, I love Mac. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

A megaflop = one million operations per second. Likewise, a gigaflop equals one billion operations per second.

(technically I think it might be slightly different, like one megaflop equals 8^1024/8 or something)

BTW, how about a benchmark that PC users can use too?

[quote]<strong>BTW, how about a benchmark that PC users can use too?</strong><hr></blockquote>What? You can't do gigaflops on your PC? Seriously, though, I'm pretty sure that the "SiSoftware Sandra" suite of tools performs FLOP tests as well as many others.

By the way, here are the results for my Mystic 500DP Power Mac G4 using the default settings with SMP and AltiVec enabled.

    3382.4 MFlops

Though, I can get it a fair bit higher by tweaking the various settings.
