Refurbished iMacs

Hi,



I am a current windows user and am considering switching over to the mac at home.



Due to budgetary constraints, I am looking at the re furbished G4 iMacs.



Has anyone bought these before ? Would appreciate if someone could share their experience before I make the plunge.

    Ummmmmmm can I ask where you would buy a refurbished G4 iMac? I can't imagine there would be to many out there....

    There are some re furbished 800 Mhz G4 superdrive iMacs available at the apple store for 1699.00

    There is not much to compare G4 on a 100MHz bus Blah...

    refurbished doesn't mean bad at all. chances are you will never know the difference between a refurb and new. anyhow, congratulations on switching from a PC! I just did the same thing. <a href="http://smalldog.com"; target="_blank">http://smalldog.com</a>; has good refurbished products at good prices.

    Yeah, the slow Bus kinda kills it, but it's a very nice computer for the price.

    I have a G4 iMac (SuperDrive model). It's the snazziest computer I've ever owned, and I love it!



    It's PLENTY fast. I'm sorry, but I'm not sitting here going "damn this 100MHz bus!".







    It's an 800MHz G4, for crying out loud. It comes with everything you need and it's wrapped in a gorgeous design and, if nothing else, acts as a wonderful conversation piece and an opportunity to turn visiting friends and family on to the Mac.



    Get one.

    Sometimes machines are refurbed for very slight problems. Bad RAM, PS, or optical, or an out of spec LCD. All things that would just be replaced and repackaged.



    If it comes with the standard one year warrantee and the option for 3 year Apple care, then it's as good as new.



    Though I still don't see how there'd be that many, doesn't Apple repair bad machines (under warantee) rather than replace them ???

    They aren't necessarily post consumer. They just may be things that got pulled off the production line with problems - maybe the abundance shows just how many problems there were having during production. (Where's Macintosh when you need him to spout off some conspiracy theory?)



    Anyway, I often buy refurb electronics, and I have never had any problems. Many of the refurb stuff I get is Sony since there's a Sony factory outlet five miles away from my house, and the only problems I have had with Sony has been with the new stuff!



    I know people who actually prefer to get refurb stuff 'cause it "has had more rigorous testing." Hey, whatever floats your boat. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />



    I just get it if it's a good deal.

    Generally "refurbished" electronics can mean very little in the way of testing has been done on the returned or rejected product, escpeially when it comes to the likes of cell phones (I once sold refurb phones and found that most of them were old phones with just new facias and new battery, problems still arose with them) but given Apples reputation for high build quality I would'nt expect any major problems with refurb stock.

    I often get refurbished Sony stuff too. I've never had a problem either.

    PowerMax.com has refurbished G4 iMacs available for $1250, $1400, and $1650 for the three models. That seems like a pretty good deal.



    I bought my iPod from them. They're a good store, but their standard delivery company (Airborne Express) is pretty bad.
