Telus With Airport? (ATTENTION CANADIANS!)

I want to get ADSL from TELUS (Western Canda Internet Service Provider) and I'm wondering if anyone has ADSL from TELUS and is using an Airport for their Ibook or PowerBook. Please tell me if you do and what slot card and airport model you have. Thanks a trillion!

I use Shaw@Home for internet access with Apple's AirPort Base Station and 2 AirPort equipped Macs. One of my friends use Telus ADSL with AirPort without any problems. We're both using the original base station (the graphite one) and Apple AirPort cards.

I have TELUS ADSL with my iBook/Airport combo.

Have had using it for over 6 months....No problem so far.

First off, let me say thank you very much for SCARING THE SHIT OUT OF ME.

Jesus man, I came in here ready to flip out, thinking I was going to read something like "you'll no longer be able to use Airport with Telus DSL..."

Man. *phew*

Using it right now on an iBook with a new card and base station, no problems at all.

You'll just never know whether I'm at my desk posting, on the couch, or about to wipe my ass. I love it.

Funny thing to me is.

Using the same ADSL account. My iBook/Airport combination NEVER drops the connection.

The iMac, which connects wired to the router. Also works fine. But my G4, which wires the same way as the iMac keeps dropping connection

Telus' control over network settings is excellent. You'll have no trouble connecting via AirPort, and setting the valid MAC addresses via the Telus web page is very easy. Actually, I just did it two minutes ago to use a different computer.

You get two IPs, which is nice, but they are dynamic. If you need a static IP you'll have to go with Shaw. The AirPort can, of course, distribute one IP over many computers.

The basic package from Shaw cable still provides dynamic IP unless you go for the SOHO package.

Same to TELUS. You can get fixed IP if you are taking the business package.

That's really sad. When I had Shaw about a year and a half ago in B.C. it was static. It's strange, they can't save all that many IPs by handing out dynamics, since Canada only has, what, four or five times zones. Everybody uses their computers during basically the same hours.

But then, that's me supposing things. They have terabytes of log-data from the past few years telling them they can save money that way, so if it came down to it I'd bet on their judgement.

The only problem I have found in setting the MAC address (and I've done this a few time, trust me - with every new Mac

) is that when you have your 2 MAC addresses set up, you have to delete one to make room for the new computer. I can't get the damn page to let me do this on my Mac.

Delete the original ones, click "submit" and it does nothing. I always go downstairs, log on with my PC, and clear the old ones out, THEN I go in and set up the new one. Weird. I either do this, or use Virtual PC to do it.

The guys on the phone at Telus never believe me when I tell them this. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

thanks you all for your kind input. I'm going to get a Powerbook, airport and one aiport card August 1, 2002. I'll come back here and ask on this "CURRENT HARDWARE" forum for step by step help and in return i'll give you a 2 year free url (I own my own url company). Thanks again!
