Clicking Noise MacBook Pro

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
This is my first mac. I got it on March 28. That night I noticed a clicking noise from the front left corner of the laptop. It happens very periodically, sometimes every few seconds or every couple of minutes. I think this is where the hard drive is located. Is this a sign that the hard drive is already failing?? Could it be SpotLight accessing the HD for indexing?

Thanks for your help.

    on mine as well.

sometimes once, sometimes 2 or 3 times together.

i have had hard disks fail. and although this is a similiar sound, it isnt failure, i think. it also doesnt sound as if it is a disk that is unseated and seeking. and definitely not spotlight indexing.

    so, what is it?

yeah, even on my iMac, the HD sounds a little too noisy.. but my external is even louder.. I hope its not a serious problem.. But this is the quitest computer I've ever had. PCs' fans always kicked out on me.

I would definitely contact Apple about it. Any undocumented noise is bad for a new computer.

Agreed. My MBP doesn't make a clicking noise as described above, even when I use it tilted on my lap desk in bed.

The CPU whine is acknowledged as global, but this sounds like a mechanical issue to me.
