The download size is dependent on various factors now though - if you have all of the security updates it will be smaller I believe, and it is also system dependent. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that could account for some of the difference. I'm downloading the 45Mb now.

Oooo, iSync now syncs calendar events up to a year in advance, that always used to bug me. I don't remember an update the required two restarts, but maybe I wasn't paying attention before.

Incidentally, we often get updates around releases. Can anyone who knows more about these things than me see if there are any hidden hints about future hardware?

Curious. Has anybody else noticed this on Apple's About 10.4.6 page?

? With the Mac OS X 10.4.6 system software update, PowerPC-based Macs will restart twice, instead of once, after the initial installation.

Hmm, do I smell a bundled firmware update?

What forthcoming Apple goodies would this include support for?

I ask you all: 30th birthday anticipation, RDF-induced paranoia, or just healthy suspicion?

About to restart - ahem, twice - right now...

Apple on Monday released Mac OS X 10.4.6, an update to its Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system that is recommended for all users.

The release (Intel (163MB), PowerPC (65MB), Server (92MB)) includes general operating system fixes, as well as improvements while using Bluetooth wireless devices, searching iWork '06 and Microsoft Office documents with Spotlight, and creating Automator workflows for iPhoto 6.

It also offers fixes for saving Word documents automatically when using a network home directory, synchronizing contacts and calendars to .Mac and mobile phones, and mounting and unmounting iDisk volumes.

Other enhancements in Mac OS X 10.4.6 target file access and byte range locking with AFP file sharing, login and authentication, connecting to Cisco VPN servers using IP/Sec, and network access when using proxy server automatic configuration files

The 45MB update is available from Apple's Web site or through the Mac OS X Software update mechanism. Additional details of the release are also published in a knowledge base article on the company's site.

    - EXIF data is now exported with TIFF images in Aperture.

    - Aperture will no longer unexpectedly quit when exporting a file with keywords that contain twelve or more Cyrillic characters.

Yippee, Aperture fixes! I'll take what I can get until 1.1

    Still waiting for the combo.

Update: Combo Ho! (off the main Support Download page).

On my PowerPC the update was 45.3 MB. On an Intel Mac Mini it was 160+ MB. Obviously a good portion of the update was Intel/Rosetta realted.

I just installed the update, and my iBook did in fact restart twice. I was a bit concerned but all came up fine, once again, allowing me to breath easy .

    Hope they bring a bunch.

Any word on what devices (if any) have been added to the list of those officially compatible with iSync? I'm getting a Sony-Ericsson W600i tomorrow, and I'd be thrilled if it was officially supported now.

Has anyone noticed if any of the MacBook Pro problems have been solved with this update, specifically the CPU whirring?

    Thanks.

My iMac restarted twice also ... made me almost freak out, cause it took a long time to start up the first time, but I restarted again after it wa sup and running and all's well. They could very well have bundled in a firmware update. They also seemed to emphasize the iSync update.

    ALSO!!!!

Try doing a permissions repair ... disk utility no longer fills the repair screen with 3 pages of Widget and DVD changes!!! My permissions repair looks like this:

    Repairing permissions for ?Macintosh HD?

    Determining correct file permissions.

    Permissions repair complete

The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume

    YAY!!!!

My iMac G5 (PowerPC) restarted twice after update.

My MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo) restarted once after update.

Both installed without issue using software update.
