    Yeah, they should.

Then you have a ultra-portable iBook and a SUPER-powerful G4 tower (with who knows what come August 13th) for serious work.

    Anyway, just a thought.

I agree totally. I just sold my TiBook 400 which replaced my old Tangerine iBook and G4 450 at the time and just bought a new iBook 600/CD today and I'm waiting to buy a nice new PowerMac once they are announced.

I do have to say this new iBook is faster than TiBook 400 was. The screen while smaller is wonderful (the tighter pixels make OS X look smoother) and the Airport reception is much better. I bought the iBook because I will miss the portability and but also wanted Jaguar (which should rock on this since I have the Radeon mobility graphics now).

I say get an iBook and a new PowerMac and you'll have a better system than a TiBook top of the line. Besides the 800Mhz TiBook is like $5100 Canadian (ouch). It would be nice if Apple stuff up here was a bit cheaper. I think more like $3500 for the top of the line would be better...

Smaller screen =/= tighter pixels . If you want tight pixels, run a 19" monitor @ 1600x1200 (or 1900x1200 if you can hack it up that high. And it *has* been done). Or better yet, run a 17" monitor @ 1600x1200.

i need an honest answer to this question, i have been going back and forth for months. i am a senior in college, and am buying a new laptop that i hope to keep for a few years (through my first few years of job or grad school, whichever i do). i am a computer engineer, so i develop both hardware and software, and need a laptop with sufficient power to run some development tools, but i don't want it to be too big and heavy, i am gonna need to carry it around alot. for the same price, i can get a tibook 667, probably with 256MD RAM (altho i will try to get 512), or if they were to come out with a G4 ibook soon i would consider that, or i can get Windows XP Pro based laptop with P4_M 1.6 GHz, 384 MB of DDR, DVD ROM, etc. both have Wi-Fi, fairly equivalent hard drives, and the same exact video card. the TiBook is a little less than half a pound lighter. can you honestly say that the Tibook will be the more powerful, practical option for me? i love OS X, and hate Microsoft, but XP seems to have fixed a few of the things i hated in earlier versions of windows, including the inability to easily switch between wireless networks. any advice?

jmb, i'd say it's not that tough.

for example, what's the max ram on that winxp laptop?

the TiPB is 1GB. that win laptop is probably 384MB, maybe 512.

does the win laptop have a dvd-cdrw drive or just dvd drive?

are the drives internal or attached. what kind of battery life do they get.

    screen size?

in all, the 800 Mhz TiBook i have here is pretty damn fast. the wireless was included in my purchase price.

it's unix based and doesn't crash, and i can read e-mail all day without thinking once about viruses. that alone is worth it to me.

    plus chicks dig 'em.

it actually is a little more difficult, because the max ram is 1 GB, i could have a dvd/cdrw combo for more money but i don't need it because i have a desktop with a 40X cdrw, the screen is 14.1 wiht my choice of three different resolutions, the smallest fo which is 1024x768, and battery life is comparable to the tibook according to the tests i have read. but i definitely do like unix.

oh, i almost forgot, the wondows-based system has a full 3 year waranty as opposed to paying 350 for a 3-year applecare. is the applecare worth getting, or do little problems like with the keyboard cost significantly less to fix than the $350 i would pay for the waranty?
