According to Macbidouille the new G4-800 TI lap tops have motherboards have sockets for two processors. They say if you remove the keyboard the socket is clearly visable.
The thing I have noticed the most on my Ti 800 compared to my Ti 400 and 550 from before is that the keys get very warm. But the heat seems to be more evenly dispersed, throughout the entire unit rather than just one very hot spot.
How is this current hardware when Apple has yet to implement a second processor. I think what Addison was insinuating is that the next revision will have dual processors...
If this second processor socket does exist, then it's a great sign for those of us waiting for a 12.1" G4 iBook.
The simple existence of the socket would indicate that Apple is planning for future (albeit a distant one) distinction between the iBook and PowerBook lines.
Though people now accept that the eMac, iMac, and current PowerMacs all run a G4 chip, these forums are filled with people who refuse to believe the PowerBook and iBook could both have a G4 at the same time.
Adding dual-processor PowerBook machines to the lineup would eliminate much of the "why would anyone buy a PowerBook when the iBook has a G4?" arguments.
Okay, I have a TiPB 800 DVI, and I have looked under the keyboard quite a bit and seen nothing that looks like a second socket...so if someone thinks they know something, tell me what I should be looking for.
I assume that if you can see the first processor it should look something like that. If it is true thatthere are two sockets in some boards then the must be fabing processors in a lower size thus reducing the heat to an acceptable level.

Actually, from what I recall reading earlier today, Macbidouille is reporting that it has "heard" that recent TiBooks come with a second processor socket. The editor is stating that he would like to see pictures of that rumored socket if anybody has actually seen it. So Macbidouille is looking for confirmation, but has no evidence itself.
IMHO, this particular report is about as substantive as Ryan Meader telling us yesterday to "expect DDR266, or at the outside, DDR333 -- DDR400 may be possible with Apple's new controller but cost and supply are not favorable." Note: otherwise Macbidouille rocks, after all it brought us pics of the upcoming PowerMac! Let's hope Macbidouille is right on the August 5 intro date!

Apparently the person claiming to have a PB with two processor sockets is in the US. As Eugene points out, the dual provessor sockets claim doesn't make much sense. Maybe that person is confusing memory sockets with processor sockets. My hunch is that that "US person" got sick of fooling the US rumors sites and branched out into fooling Macbidouille. Either way, I say bah-loh-ney.

I don't ever expect to be included in any of Apple's target markets, yet I will buy my next computer from Apple, if that makes any sense at all.
