[quote]what did the whole of China wake up and suddenly crave an imac??

Funny you said that because I am Chinese and I just woke up today and craved an iMac and so did every Chinese I know. I guess that's why your order is delayed.
Ordering from the Apple Store allows you to configure your machine the way you want it; there isn't too much you can change on an iMac but on the other models you can add RAM, bigger hard drives, different video cards, etc. The other online resellers usually have only the standard configurations.

But Apple RAM is pretty dang spendy compared to others.... hmmm.. I can see the hard drive, but the standard configs are usually good enough for a consumer machine.
Why don't you just jump in a car, drive 2 hours and pick one up from the New Hampshire Apple Store? Get it the same day, save tax and shipping and you can add RAM there. That's what I would do anyway...

That was our first thought! We went to the Cambridgeside store, and were told that no Apple store had them in stock, and wouldn't for a t least 2 weeks. They did have a demo unit though! VERY COOL.

2 weeks, no tax or 3-4 weeks, tax? Seems like a no brainer to me
Hmmm..not sure what side to take here. Apple's small blunder of promising you an iMac in 2-3 days if you cancel and re-order or your HUGE mistake of buying RAM from Apple!
I just wish I could afford a new imac I'm stuck on a imac 233. I need to start a Help Craig get an fancy Imac fund. Anyways dude from scotland don't be sad, its gonna be well worth the wait.
The moral of this story is don't EVER buy RAM from Apple. There are plenty of places out there that will get it for you for less than half the price, and ship it overnight as well.
I placed an order for a 17" iMac at ClubMac/MacMall a couple of weeks ago. I called yesterday to find out when they're supposed to get them and the guy said "2006." Realizing that Apple isn't "that" bad I waited for him to give me the real date which was nearly as annoying AUGUST 28th. That is rediculous.
I assume, if this is true, that 10.2 will be on the machine when it ships, but I'm getting really tired of waiting for new machines to be released and then having to wait a month and a half to get the damn thing. Apple really needs to work on this.
Hey WARPD since your in Boston, you can go to the Apple stores at the Cambridge side galleria or the Northshore mall in Peabody. I was at the Peabody store last Saturday and they had them in stock.
Comments
True, but only ClubMac offers the instant rebates. At MacMall you pay full retail, whether or not you want the extra RAM.

Sorry.

How do I cancel orders at apple.com?

I think you'll have to call them to cancel an order. I did it before and couldn't find anywhere on the site to do that.
Talk to a real person on the phone... what the hell is up with THAT?!
Good things take time.

Look up Ramjet, for example.

Speaking about RAM - what are some good places (and by good I mean cheap) to get it.

The previously mentioned Ramjet - $195 US for 1 GB of eMac RAM.
