Just got my MacBook...

Well, I've got about 1 hour on it so far, but here are my immediate impressions so far...

It's built great, I'd almost even say that I'm more impressed with the fit and finish of this MacBook than the MBP I bought a month ago. Everything is put together very nicely, and has a great feel to it.

The screen is nice, typical of one I'd find on a PC in this range, no dead pixels! Yeah! A HUGE step above the crappy ibook screens.

This thing gets HOT... holly crap! It was a nice warm day here in sunny So Cal, and it got to be unbearable with the MB on my lap... heat is an issue.

The keyboard is a little odd, and is taking a little bit of time for me to adjust to it, but the buttons do feel nice, even if they do appear to be a little too far spaced apart.

Overall, great little laptop.

I picked up a standard black version at the local Apple store. I'll get some pics up in a bit, if people actually want some... any requests?

Yeah! I'm all for some Mac porn!

Seriously, I'm so excited Apple brought these out when they did. The 15" MacBooks are the only models available in black. No problem, I'm quite happy with getting the $1099 model. I wonder if the 1.83 GHz, 13" models get as hot as the 2 GHz, 15" models. \

The new keyboards sound like fun.

    1. pics please please please

    2. is it true that the 2 ram slots are occupied? ie. it ships with two 256mb sodimms? under techspecs at apple's site it says "512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) on two SO-DIMMs"

and you didn't believe them? this is true. and because of the 'shared' memory with the integrated graphics you should always have 'matched' ram meaning the same size and specs in both slots for dual channel mode. otherwise your performance may suffer. This is not as big of a deal on the MBP or iMac since they have dedicated graphics.

Pics are going to have to wait a day or two... I got called in this morning, and I have a paper due tomorrow... which is what I should be working on at work right now, but I'm a forum addict.

The only thing I feel bad about with this purchase is, well two things, the lack of a backlit keyboard (I really got used to that), and the ram set up... yes its true... 2 256 sticks... so that means I have to replace both =( It's like getting a machine without any ram. The keyboard I'm sure I will get used to as time goes by.

went out to the local Apple store to try out the new MB...what a damn fine machine!

Love the keyboard...I type very quickly & had no trouble with accuracy..even at the weird, bent-over angle I had to use. In fact, the keyboard had such a nice feel...it felt like a "downgrade" to step over & use the MBP keyboard.

The screen is gorgeous. Text looked absolutely brilliant. Photos look amazingly brilliant. I can't imagine ever using a matte screen LCD again. In fact, stepping over the MBP & looking at the matte screen was something of a let down.

The screen size is great & psychologically "feels" as large as the MBP 15" screen.

The UI on the MB is super snappy. Just as many (or shall I say few?) bounces on opening apps as on the MBP. The MB UI seemed a little snappier, dare I say, than the MBP...that glossy screen must have affected my brain. MS Word seemed faster than it does on my 2.0GHz G5 iMac.

all in all, it's a killer machine...and I immediatley wanted one. I almost regret ordering the MBP...However, once I see that MBP gloss screen on my desk, I'm sure I'll snap back to reality.

congrats on your purchase Zubba, it seems like you'll enjoy your MB for years to come.

funny thing, when I was in the store...this big guy with large, muscled arms picked up the MB and his only comment, under his breath, was, "It's heavy."

ps: the heat on the MB is fine. It's warm, but definitely could work on one's legs. All the MB's seemed to be the same consistent warmth...unlike the MBP's which varied in temperature from machine to machine in the store.
