I think this is a great update. REALLY, I'm not the least disappointed...the dual 867 MHz is tempting me a lot...and I really like the improved expansion (4 internal drives, 4 RAM slots etc.)

What the hell? Look! There's no heat sink! Those G4s are air cooled! These new PowerMacs must be quiet.

Kecksy, lay off the crack. The heatsink is obviously made of invisible material.

Nice. Not too fond of the bezel for the 5-1/4" drives, or their position in the middle of the case, but oh well...

No price drop on the 17" LCD, though, which is what I was hoping for.

Yeah, $999 for a 17" LCD is lame.

    I wanted to see a widescreen 17" for $699.

    Maybe next year.

I guess it will take a G5 to beat a P4 in Quake. Wasn't Q3 going to be Altivec enhanced. Whatever happened to that update?

The ATi 9700 will be added as a BTO when it comes right? When someone gets one of these beasts please tell us if these beasts are now quiet! Man these are great PowerMacs even if they're ugly!

/Me goes to price one in Education

They are working on it. It should be out when we get our G5's

It will be nice to see where the

    old duel's price will go.

    I'm a smidge disappointed, I was hoping

they were going to offer a quad in the

    lineup.

    <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

I'm not surprised the case didn't

change much, It's way more cost effective

to not revamp the production line

    during a market slump.

    Me thinks it's sweet enough..

    DDR SDRAM finally!

I thought they'd at least start USB 2..

I think this is the last batch from

this generation hardware. I think they are

still holding back. Darn.. Damn slowdown..

It is unfortunate that Motorola sucks so much. Xserve-style RAM (Yikes! ) However in reality if you're doing lots of I/O it wouldn't make a difference. So for me, I don' think there will be too much of a difference. However I bet MU is right, this is the last batch of this generation of hardware. Next revision will see a new motherboard and possibly G5. By the way welcome to AppleInsider MU! I love Canada

Wow, that's a really big heat sink!

Nice update. Nothing to floor me, but nothing to sneeze at. Duals across the lineup was the best thing Apple could do to start moving Powermacs. Maybe the 166 MHz system bus w/ DDR RAM will help move these things, too.

More than ever, it's obvious that Apple is Motorola's little bitch--for now. It will be a glorious day when Steve Jobs finally gets to tell moto to take it over a barrel. IBM, PLEASE put out for Apple!
