Has anyone done any rendering with their MBP? I am looking for the time for 1 hour DV to MPEG 4.

well, considering that an iMac is the same as a MBP but just vertical...and a full size HD...but other than that the same..I'm converting movies at very close to realtime. 1:1.

That help or not? My desktop set up is a 17" iMac 1.83ghz w/2gb quality Crucial ram.

Someone with a MBP probably can help you further.

The iMac has a higher-clocked GPU.

According to Alex Linseys podcast, Shake at NAB was running faster on the MBP than many there had ever seen on a powermac.

This episode of the Macbreak video cast may be most informative to you.

If it is that dramatic of an increase in Shake, then the DV->MPG time must have been cut too...

Linsey sure likes "nifty". If it is 1:1 I might go ahead and upgrade.
