Power Mac:

? Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/167MHz system bus

? 512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM - 1 DIMM

? 120GB Ultra ATA drive

? Optical 1 - Apple SuperDrive

? Optical 2 - None

? ATI Radeon 9000 Pro dual-display w/64MB DDR

? 56K internal modem

? Apple Pro Keyboard - U.S. English

? Mac OS - U.S. English

price: 3299

Dell Workstation:

? Pentium 4, 2.5 ghz 533 mhz bus

? 512 mb ram

? 120 gb hard drive

? nVidia Quandro 4 700GXL 64 mb VGA/DVI dual display

? Dell video editing pack (to include firewire)

? XP proffessional

? DVD-R-WR drive + editing software

Price: 3373

Dell system does not have level 3 cache or multiple proccessors but it does have fasster system bus.

This shows that Dell markets their products as cheaper by including almost no ram and a tiny hard drive, but when you do an accurate comparison Apple is cheaper.

And of course this price difference does not include the huge amount of time and hassle save by using a Mac instead of a PC

How about you read the posting guidelines? You should PM him if you have a problem and not comment about him in the forum.

Nice try. The price sounds fishy to me. Plus that is a $600 pro video card on the Dell not fair to compare to the enrty level ATI on the Apple.

Agreed. Some strange things on that Dell config... I tried a similar config and got $3550, but the video card comparison isn't right, and adding a $400 editing package to include firewire for a comparison? You can twist it a couple ways... I could've done the config a little differently on the Dell (use a 2.4 GHz instead of 2.53 GHz) and get the price of the Dell under $3000. It's all in how you make the configs. Regardless, the Dual 1.25 GHz G4 looks pretty sweet, and I'd take it over the Dell any day.

Even if you take out the pro graphics card the system still costs 3462. note: I was only trying to compare the systems at the exact same specs, there was no option for a 64 mb card accept the quandro. Go to the Dell website and see for your self. (you have to reconfigure the computer).

And don't say I should have priced out a home computer for comparision, the upper end Power Mac is priced like a workstation so it should be compared to one.
