Powerbook G4 DVI Titanium/startup kernel panic

Hi,

got a weird situation here...

I need 10.2.8 in order to run a program that doesn't run on another OS.

What I did:

-Wiped HD, made 2 partitions with another mac with the powerbook in firewire target mode, one for 10.2, one for 10.3

-Installed 10.2.1

-Tried sofware update to install 10.2.8: installer hangs

-Donwloaded 10.2.8 combo update from apple.com

-Installed it, now I get a kernel Panic just after the apple logo appears on screen.

-I resetted Power management

-Resetted PRAM

-Still kernel panic

Now what could this be?

A bad 10.2.8 update download?

Is there a regular 10.2.8 update? Not combo...?

What is a combo update anyway?

Suggestions?

I think your FW partitioning is at fault. Get a 10.2.whatever install cd. Boot from it. Go into the apple menu and 'open disk utility'. Partition. Install. Update.

I didn't know I could use disk utility when booting from cd.

Anyway, I sorted it out few days ago.

I found a document on the apple support pages that I am unable to update from 10.2.1 to 10.2.8 directly. I had to install 10.2.6 first.

    All is working now...

    Anyway, thanks for the reply...
