Here us what my friend heard yesterday in a meeting with some people from Apple (he works in retail and distribution). They started building machines TODAY, Saturday. They let the orders build up, they get an idea of what they are working with and then they begin building today. You should start to receive ship notifications maybe today (Saturday) but if not then definitely Monday.

another question, a little bit off topic... concerning the possibility to add 2GB RAM to the new PM.

I have an old PM 400 AGP with four RAM slots.

that means i could install 2GB RAM. My question is, will my motherboard support 2GB ?

The Day the DUAL G4's w/DDR were announced I ran down to my local APPLE STORE and bought the following:

    DUAL 1 GIG

standard config w/ 80 gig hd and the Radeon 9000

then I bought my 2 gigs of Kingston DDR PC2700 Ram for an even $600. My machine screams!

Also installed a combo drive I had, below my super drive.

I was strictly OS9 on a G3 Pismo 400 before, (and a PowerCenter Pro 210 before that) so this is my first real experience with OS X and I'm glad I waiting to go OS X with Jaguar. It's so responsive, and all the new added features blow my mind! LOL. (see what prolonged use of OS 9 and a G3 chip does? I'm giggling like a school girl!)

So many people are talkin smack about the new machines...but it's MORE than enough for me. I mainly edit in Final Cut, do some Photoshop stuff, use Word and surf the Net. So I'm all good....until a G5 rears its head

I was going to buy the Dual 1 Ghz and actually had an order placed at the Apple Store.

I went to the Apple Store in Durham/Chapel hill and played with tboth the Dual 867 and the Dual 1Ghz and couldn't tell a big difference between them. SO instead of spending $5000 on a Dual Ghz and 22" Cinema Display, I spent the same ammount of monet on a Dual 857, 22 ACD, and the low end eMac G4 700.

I also get 2 free printers, a free Rio 600 MP3 player, free Norton Utilities 7, and a $200 back on the Display/cpu purchase via rebate.

Also, I am trading in my imac 333 for $350 credit. (could get more on ebay I guess?)

Once the rebates clear the final total for it all will be $4829 and both me and the wife will have new G4's with OS 10.2.

defiant: yes you can install 2GB of RAM, however, Apple said you could only install 1.5 because the finder can only handle 999MB and the OS can only address 1.5GB I think.

Mac OS X might actually enhance that system's value in that case.

    Radeon 9700 with 64MB SDRAM?

    WTF are you smoking?

first of all the Radeon 9700 isn't even orderable yet, as the PC version has just been released today (yesterday), the Mac versio is going to take some time. Secondly it's likely there will never be a version with less than 128MB RAM, and 3rd of all, it's never going to be anything less than DDR-SDRAM.

So I guess you got a 9000 Pro for now.

I will, Bodhi. Are you sure they started building them today? I'm in Los Angeles too. My order status still says "being assembled". They also told me it would be a 2-3 week wait, and it's only been I think 3 business days so far since I ordered.

I ordered mine with FedEx 2 day shipping, but there's no indication my dual 1 GHz will ship any time soon. I got the GeForce 4 Ti BTO, also. I'll definitely post here when I get it... I just don't expect I'll get it for a couple more weeks.

I ordered the dual 1GHZ with the following upgrades on the 13th:

    Geforce 4 Ti, 120GB HD, 512MB

I don't have the e-mail in front of me, but a couple days ago, I received an e-mail that said there will be an up to 15day delay. Likewise, I'm curious to here when other's receive their machines as well.

On the plus side, I did receive my 17" LCD display yesterday ;-)

I'm not sure if the following is of help to those struggling with their decision to purchase the 1.25 GHz unit, especially if it is due to the shipping delay advised on Apple Store. It "might" be that they will be delivered a lot sooner than Apple Store currently indicates.

I placed the the order shown below on 14 August. As you can see it included a 22" Cinema display. I had anticipated early delivery of the display but after telephoning Apple Store was advised that it CANNOT be split form the main order. The two components formed one order and therefore MUST be delivered as one purchase unit. If I split the order I could get the display early, but loose the rebate. I decided to leave well alone and not give them the opportunity to screw things up. I received the following email today, which assume means 2/3 weeks for the full order since the display is still showing 1/2 days build on UK Apple Store.

    Dear Apple Store Customer,

Thank you for choosing the Apple Store.

With reference to your recent order for a Power Mac G4, we are currently

experiencing delays in one or more of the key components

of your order and as such are now expecting to ship your order within the

    next 2-3 weeks.

We sincerely apologize for this delay and appreciate your patience.

    Kind regards,

    Apple Store

I just hope they supply the resellers in time also, and not sell the available parts exclusively over their overpriced AppleStore.

I was holding out for a 1.25ghz, but I NEED it in 2 weeks, so it looks like I'll be getting a spiffy new 1ghz with a 22" Cinema Display. Good enough for me.

Has anybody heard of the 1.25ghz be available in the next 2 weeks? Ya, know... just in case.

It seems that the Ti is holding up a lot of orders.

Apple Manufacturing: "We only have 100 GeForce Ti's in stock and we are releasing a new Power Mac in a week. Should we order more?"

Apple Corporate: "nah, nobody will BTO the GeForce Ti..."
