Fingerprint Accessible Mac Mini.

Wondering if something like this is possible - obviously via an external fingerprint reader connected via USB to the Mac Mini...



I will be setting up a Mini in a high-family-traffic area and don't want to have the inconvenience of having to type in a password with them looking over my shoulder when I feel like letting them on - with my theoretical fingerprint access setup I am hoping to get it so I can just touch my fingerprint on the scanner and be logged in after booting up to the login window... Is this Possible?

    And you can't just set them each up with their own user accounts and enable Fast User Switching? WTF??

    Do you have a Bluetooth cellphone? If so, you can simply use proximity-based login.

    Since I don't own a Bluetooth cellphone myself, I shouldn't have gotten ahead of myself.



    Salling Clicker, however, boasts this feature. It senses the distance between the Mac and the (supported) Bluetooth device (quite a list), and based on that apparently can execute AppleScripts. Upon moving the cellphone too far away, you could simply have a script that opens the FUS login window, or a script that launches the screen saver, etc. Likewise, when the cellphone approaches, you could get logged in automatically.



    Another solution is Peripheral Vision, which can perform actions when devices are detected as being connected or disconnected.



    However, both of them are shareware.

    I am definately going to look into this Bluetooth Device Activiation idea - hopefully it does work - it'll be even more secure than Fingerprinting but I am still a bit sceptical - if this'll work it'll be amazing...

    You win - great idea anyways, thanks for sharing - in any instance, as I am a Switcher - I can't figure out the Automator bit.
