I'll never do it again! Never fall for the line of BS you guys spin before every MacWorld. Its always a big set up for disappointment. This time was the worst. And to think I really, truly trusted Codename. I mean if you can't trust some anonymous person in an online forum, who can you trust? I have to admit, I was surprised when Steve said he was quitting. Didn't think he would mention AppleInsider specifically, or give us the finger. Now that MasterGateing has been promoted to iCEO we might just get some cool stuff.

Yeah, the new iMacs are nice, but my Dad's gonna have to wait until March to get one. And I can't believe Steve chucked Avie Tevanian into the audience when OS X DVD player didn't play his Monsters 2 trailer.

yeah im totally bummed too. The iMac sucks, topping out at 900mhz?!?!?!?! come on now. And why in the hell is it in the shape of a pear? No new displays or even price cuts. PowerMac still hasnt broken the ghz barrier. And no new hardware advancements either.

Time to start saving up for the next expo when i know for certain they will debut a G5, i have a confirmed rumor that i heard while standing in line at the movies from this guy behind me, he said that in this new movie they talk about the G5 and OSX 10.9 and that the actor who says this has a friend of a friend that heard from a developer that there was this machine that he heard of from a friend that could do operations at like 20 to 30 times as fast as current machines but he never said what kind of operations and he also said he heard a voice coming from inside the totally sealed enclosure of an alien who was actually using his mind to perform the operations of the cpu, and that apple had been breading these aliens in their cupertino headquarters for the past 10 years and now they finally have enough of them for mass distribution. Hey where do you think the name iPod came from huh?

/end totally ununderstandable line of thought that is only one sentence.

<you know we need to keep this thread to compare it on the 7th with what we really end up saying >

That's not quite right. You can't have more than two G3s without *lots* of support hardware. I think there might be a couple "gotcha"s with using dual G3s, but I can't remember. In any case, I know a dual G3 can be done because the BeBox had dual G3s.

The Be Box did it quite well with a 603, and it was even more limited in multiprocessing capabilities than the G3. Back when Be was hot, I posted to a Be board about the lack of true SMP support in the 603. I got an angry reply from a Be developer who told me that everyone who says the 603 can't do MP is wrong. G3 MP should be very doable.

I'm not going to post any gloomy predictions, since I believe we'll be pretty happy after Macworld. All of the rumors have obviously inflated our hopes to dangerous levels, yet something still gives me hope. We probably won't see G5s on the 7th. At the same time, however, Steve knows he has to deliver something the market really wants. I'm betting the new iMac will be insanely great.

Actually, that was kind of funny. Some people in the audience thought it was another promotion like when Steve threw out those e***** t-shirts earlier in the keynote. Everyone was scrambling to get an Avie they could take home. The almost forgot about the iPopper digital camera under everyone's seat.

Now I'm sure people will think twice about vilifying the Kormacs and Dorsals of the world, when their predictions came true. Why, this MacWorld was just like a... dream on.

OK, the signs were clear - in hindsight. Everyone should have been able to notice, but it surprised me nonetheless. I mean, it was bound to happen at some time, and after this long it was even likely. Companies do this all the time to stay focused and rejuninate.

And the time maybe just right. After all, MacOS-X is on track but with a massive delay. The prospect of a G5 is clear, but competition, especially from AMD is stiff. So there are still chances and risks.

Nevertheless I felt sorry to see Jobs go.

They have to do something great now. Have you seen apple.com today? They are hyping this one as "Macworld Expo, This One is big. Even by our standards." WTF  Something great must be coming.

I agree. Now usually I would dismiss this as regular everyday marketing-speak. However Apple should have the ability to tell the delayed-wow (such as the iPod reaction) from the real, meaty, tangible, BIG, e.g. the G5s that may or may not be coming.

I just can't get Steve's final comments out of my mind. I thought I had heard something similar somewhere before. Suddenly it hit me? Sue's speech from Survivor I.

[quote] Quoting Steve Jobs: " There are two kinds of Mac users? rats and snakes. I'm a snake, and I swear I'll spend the rest of my days hunting down those rat bastards at Applensider." (This is where he gave us the finger)

I have a very good feeling about this one. If it was going to be nothing they wouldn't be hyping it up so much ( that's called setting yourself up for a fall ). If it's going to be nothing big they wouldn't be drawing more attention to it.

I really don't know what it will turn out to be but, I think there will be some basic changes to their product line ( bigger changes than they have made in a long time ). Will this be the new imac or the G5 ( or both ) ? I have no idea but I think something dramatic will happen.
