imovie 5 being slow

i have imovie 5 and it works fine, until I put alot of audio clips and lock them. then when i try to play it it pauses and skips alot when it gets to the audio clips. is this because of my computer is to slow or is it just imovie? any ways to speed up this performance?

I have an imac G5 1.8ghz and 1 GB of ram.

    I cant say whether your computer is slow or not because i dont know what other applications you use. If using imovie and many audio clips in it is the most you do i would say there is something wrong with the computer. If you use other applications that use more memory and they run fine then it must be imovie.

    What format are the clips in? I use Final Cut Pro more but when I'm dealing with audio, if I use a format it might have playback issues with, it just plays as a series of beeps. I usually encode them to aiff before using them in a sequence. It uses a lot of drive space though.
