Following apps compatible with Intel Macs: MacTheRipper, DVD2OneX, Audacity?

Hey all,

my father is looking into buying an Intel iMac and wants me to help find out about compatibility issues. The following is a list of software titles he uses regularly (do they work on the new iMacs?):

Toast 7

Photoshop CS or CS2

Microsoft Office X

MacTheRipper

DVD2OneX

Audacity

i know Toast 7, Photoshop CS/CS2 & Microsoft Office are, but what about the others?

I've looked around on versiontracker.com and a list of "Universal Binaries and Intel-Native Mac Applications" ( http://www.macintouch.com/imacintel/ubinaries.html ) but couldn't find the information.

If you can help, or personally know the answers, would you let me know.

thank you

Audacity, not a Universal Binary yet, but should work:

Microsoft Office X, not a Universal Binary yet, but it works.

Photoshop CS/CS2, not a Universal Binary yet, but it works.

Toast 7, not a Universal Binary yet, mostly works, but CD Spin Doctor won't:

    I don't think Audacity does:

"Confirm Audacity does not work with Intel machines. Anyone out there to resolve this as this is a really useful piece of software?" that's from http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=8052 (reviews off macupdate.com about Audacity)

And it appears that MacTheRipper DOES, but at least one user had problems (perhaps not due to the Intel factor):

Does this work with the new intel dual cores?

When I tried a dvd, it crashed, but so did Handbrake. (2/2/2006, Version: 2.6.6)

Seeing as the plaform is listed as PPC and it was last updated almost nine months before the first Intel machines were released, it would only run under Rosetta...

...and your results would seem to suggest that it doesn't do that very well at all. (2/15/2006, Version: 2.6.6)

Actually, it does run under rosetta. Your DVD could have crashed for any number of reasons, many having nothing to do with this program. Recommend you go to their site (www.ripdifferent.com) and join the discussion group. (2/16/2006, Version: 2.6.6) "

still looking for some confirmation on all this. Thanks all the same.

Ah, okay. I might have been wrong about Audacity. I have it on my MacBook, but I'd not run it yet. You're right, it feezes after it asks you for default language.

Hopefully it'll be cleared up soon.

It's alright Blackbird, everyone makes mistakes. But if you've got an Intel Mac, could/have you tried running MacTheRipper? Some people seem to think it works fine on the new chips...

I'll have to get back to you on that. Maybe tomorrow. I'll download it and check it on my MacBook.

MacTheRipper does work on Intel through Rosetta, and there's a universal beta out.

MacTheRipper isn't on this list http://www.macupdate.com/macintel.php ("NEW UNIVERSAL BINARY UPDATES:")

I tried installing MacTheRipper when I first got my intel iMac and it didn't install. Do you have to do anything special to set it up for Rosetta?

Well, it seems to be working. It's about time!

What will I have to do to edit this footage in imovie? Does this rip it as a file that'd be burned directly to a DVD or is it decompressed to where I can get to the individual video files? I'm a n00b to DVD burning/ripping.

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 is PPC only (and the last one publically released), but the latest version "MacTheRipper 3.0 R13 D" is universal. Not that it matters to me, since I'm still on 1.25GHx G4.

Hmm I was trying Mac The Ripper out for the first time on a MacBook, the universal binary 3.0 r13 'beta' or whatever it is.

Other than the fact this program can and does crash, I noticed something this morning and I don't know whether it is normal behavior or yet another bug.

I set osx to not load up dvdplayer when I insert a dvd. To 'do nothing'.

If I then run MTR, it's not able to extract the dvd.

But if dvdplayer loads, accesses the dvd, (quit app if you want)THEN MTR is able to rip it.

So the dvdplayer is unlocking something. But shouldn't MTR be able to do this on it's own?
