Any credence in Apple's delivery dates?

I've ordered a MacBook from the Apple Store (UK) which is due to be delivered on 9th August. I was just wondering how accurate Apple's delivery dates are, it says 'on or before 9th August'. The thing is, I'm going away on that day (not much I can do about it, only 16) and just wondering whether to expect the delivery prior to me leaving. I've heard that Apple ships directly from China, is this true?

Thanks for any advice or experiences.

Aaah... so they do come from China. But did it arrive on the estimated delivery date or before? I can't seem to track mine, there's some server error at Apple's end (it was working earlier \).
