The Mac Maintenance

I was just reading something about yearly tuneups that you can have at a Genius Bar and was wondering what maintenance it is advised to carry out every few months on your mac. Any ideas guys? Thanks a lot

It's probably easier to say what ISN'T necessary.

    - Virus and malware scans.

    - Defragging.

    - There is no registry to "clean out".

    - Reformatting.

    - While some applications may improperly leave files in nonstandard places, as a rule dragging the application to the Trash removes it. The vast majority of applications do not need to be "uninstalled" or "removed".

I'm pleased to see so many new Mac users. It's absolutely amazing.

Download Cocktail, it's a free app that makes your computer do various self-checks and maintenances on command that it would usually only do automatically in the dead of night.

    I've also used:

    - System Optimizer X

    - MacJanitor

...and by the way, I too am so glad there are a lot of new Mac users finding AI. See? We really have become the replacement for the Apple forums.
