External Power Supply on new G4 ?

The new G4 duals are having noise and heat issues. This is now well known. My own dual is a bit noisy too and produces a lot of heat in the back. The noise level is not bad, but the pitch (or "kind" of noise) is really annoying in the long run. It's all related to the power supply and its damn fans. IMHO, Apple is using a really crappy piece of hardware as power supply in their new models.

May we solve the problems by putting the power supply at the exterior, like the Cube ? Is there a PS replacement (not just the PS fans) for the new duals ?

If this could be done, maybe we'll have more free space in the G4 box to add things (HD, or whatever). What do you think ?

Or leaving this space empty, will it help the G4 to cool itself, without the PS in the case ? I mean, will air be able to move adequatly in there ?

I understand this will kills the warranty. But anyway, is this a good solution to the heat and noise problems ?

if anything is a problem - it's the fan.

but: more speed - more heat - more fans

it isn't as easy as that.

everything inside a tower is arranged on how to get as much cooling as possible.

    the airflow is the key.

    Just replace the fans.

It is simple to do and effective.

Your considerations about cooling seem not to meet the point.
