Here comes car/airplane adaptor

You are not burning disc while carrying the laptop anyway

Yeah, as they say in linguistically challenged circles, true dat!

You should really be plugged in and NOT moving the machine when you burn a disc.

All I can say is WOOWOWOWOWWOW. I din't expect these specs and i sure as hell didn't see a 1ghz model for $2799 much less a superdrive version $500 less the the previous top of the line. Apple nailed this one all the way.

Now to figure out if I should place my order online or wait for the local Apple store to get their shipment.??

    <a href="http://www.apple.com/bluetooth/"; target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/bluetooth/;

"Enabling Bluetooth on your Mac is easier than you can imagine. Plug in the D-Link DWB-120M Bluetooth USB Adapter to any available USB port on your iBook, previous generation PowerBook G4"

What does previous generation Powerbook G4 mean? does this mean that the bluetooth adapter cant be used with the new Powerbook G4?

I cannot believe the Powerbooks are here at a GHz and with a Superdrive. For once Apple COMPLETELY surprised me.

    I'm buying a 800MHz, 12" iBook right away.

Damn, the Apple portable line looks better than ever. I think it was a while ago that Apples portables were this close to the PC laptops.

    Edit: Typo, I'm so excited.

Kind of funny how we all (well at least me) thought the big news was going to be all about the iBook. Given the consumer targeted time of the year, Apple did improve the iBook, but this new Powerbook seem to be the big story.

Still, there will be those waiting for the new enclosure.

Quite surprised. I'm going to play with the toys at Apple KOP this weekend. My wife won't like this, but I'm going to convince her to let me buy a 1GHZ PB to replace my Pismo. I think between selling my stock and putting up my 500/12GB/384MB Pismo up I can almost raise the cash.

I'm eating crow right now. MMMMMMM....crow.

This is just too much. Too freakin' much. I've had my Ti for less than a month, and the difference between my unit and this new one is RIDICULOUS. I will call Apple and ask that I get some money back. I'm going to bitch like crazy, and bring up how they swindled my into paying $99 for .Mac to keep my email address and how I had to pay for Jaguar.

Simply put, paying $3700 for the 800 Ti that is outdated with such INCREDIBLE specs in only three weeks in UNACCEPTABLE.

Heh, good luck with that one!

What I'm noticing is that this is the first Mac to use SRAM. The I've got 256K L2 and 2MB L3 cache on my 800Mhz Ti. What kind of performance difference is there with 1MB SRAM?

I know that SRAM is faster than DDR SDRAM, but how much so, and considering there's less of it, will there be much of a boost? I guess the Photoshop benchmarks will tell the tale...

Looks like Apple just took a huge chunk out of your resale value, hahaha...

Just goes to show, ALWAYS wait after a product has been out for 3 months, always...

I don't see what you can complain about though, you knew the machine was horribly stale and over-priced when you bought.

Mebbe Steve will send you a personal thank-you for helping to clear inventory and keep margins up.

Uh, mr Hannebu, you have 1MB L3 on your 800Ti, not 2.

Dude, you are one stupid fsck. You hang out on a RUMOR forum and still, you buy a new computer when the rumors say that new ones are around the corner?

You will get shit from Apple. It's your own "fault" that you messed up.

Excellent update, but I believe this TiBook may be too hot for your lap to handle. It still looks like a 7455 series G4, manufatured under HIPERMOS 6. Watch out for the battery meter also.

Is there anyway to replace the combo drive in my powerbook with a superdrive?
  • Reply 58 of 192
I just tried the ADC thing...seems to work...but I guess they can always just cancel the order if it doesn't work out...

    Lessee...

    ADC price for the Ghz/SuperDrive:$2399

    Upgrading to 1GB RAM:-$20

    Downgrading to 40GB HD:-$80

    8.5% Sales Tax:$195.42

    ADC Student Membership:$99

    Shipping:$0

    Grand Total: Under $2600!

It would have been over $3200 regularly!

(PS,thanks to the original poster. I was just gonna settle for the low- or mid-level PB! Anyone know why they took 20 dollars off for upgrading the RAM? and I downgraded the HD because I figured I would upgrade it at a later time).

Only downside? 3-4 weeks delivery...I WANT IT NOW!

I hate to say it Steve, but if you had paid more attention to these boards BEFORE you put you hand in your pocket you would not have made such a mistake. I know that that sounds harsh, but you were happy with the book you bought, get over it. The machine you have is much faster then you realise.

In reality what do you think the PB's are going to have this time next year? We will all be awaiting for the 970mobile edition! You have a great machine and it will last you 12 months and in a years time you will want to dump it. In fact those who have ordered the new machine are going to be green with envy when a 970 mobile edtion is realeased.
