dude think of it this way... you get to use your PB for 2 whole months longer then anyone who waited... complaining will not get you anywhere... if it is that big of a deal to you then you need to learn to get over it....

when you bought your computer you were willing to pay the steep price for the high end... IMHO the 667 was a much better deal, so I got that, now for less money i could have gotten a better computer, but I am not complaining because i realized that when i bought my computer i was willing to deal with anything that apple released...

if it bothers you so much maybe you should sell your new computer, wait a month or so and get a new one...

    I really want one.

But I think I will stick with my Ti800Mhz

Will I be able to buy a Superdrive for my Tibook??? Would it be possible to upgrade it?

LOL!!!!! I bloody love it. I was looking through all of the posts just waiting to find the disgruntled PB owner!

Sorry mate, but it has hardly been a secret that the PB was about to be updated. You chose to spend $3700 on the system, and it is no worse a system now that it was the day that you bought it.

If if is an consolation, you have put a smile on my face! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

While the chap should have seen the writing on the wall, let's ease off on the ribbing.

I'm sure we've all been burned one time or another on a purchase. It's a shitty feeling.

On that note, I can't believe the difference a day makes. I checked the Apple Canada site and an old Ti800 costs a whopping $1300 more than the new Ti867! (although there are some minor differences in RAM and HD)

This just goes to show that all the whining about Apple's prices being out of line were not unwarranted. I'm just glad Apple finally saw the light.

to the disgruntled Ti800 owner. Try selling your Ti800 now on eBay. You will probably get a decent price on it. The longer you wait the less valuable it becomes. With the money you get from the Ti800 buy the newer PB's. You will most likely have to spend some more cash, but you at least get the latest PB and had a machine for two months while everyone else didn't.

    to get back on subject:

I am glad I waited. I have to admit I was doubtful that Apple was going to come out with a decent machine. I am glad I was wrong. I just ordered my Ti1Ghz/1GB RAM/Superdrive. The only complaint I have is the reduction in HD speed from 5400 to 4200 RPM. I wonder why Apple did that? The previous models had 5400 RPM drives if I am not mistaken. That and the 3-4 week wait. But I am happy. That is all that matters to me now

These machines are a good buy. With the 1 Ghz/ATI 9000 Mobility GPU/64 MB RAM and superdrive should hold me over for a long time (well until the newer PB's are released).

My suddenly-outdated TiBook gets awfully toasty at 800 MHz. Has heat output noticeably increased, or has battery life noticeably dropped, in this new 1 GHz model?

It's called a calculated risk, the rumours have been around for a month that something was happening and you still bought what you considered a worthwhile machine. Now you want Apple to compensate you - get a grip.

The BTO 60G drive was 5400, and 40G was standard on the high end.

I don't know why it's not an option at least. Maybe because the 60 is now standard, they decided to just leave it at 4200 to save some bucks. Are there any 80G 5400 drives for laptops?

Can anyone provide data (or a website that provides same) on the comparison between the G4 and Intel/PC CPU hz?

    LOL !

This update makes me regret (almost) to have bought my DDR 867 MHz dual.

Before I purchased my tower, I was considering to buy a laptop. I'm glad I didn't. But now, I want one !

    ROFL !

    Lessee...

    ADC price for the Ghz/SuperDrive:$2399

    Upgrading to 1GB RAM:-$20

    Downgrading to 40GB HD:-$80

    8.5% Sales Tax:$195.42

    ADC Student Membership:$99

    Shipping:$0

    Grand Total: Under $2600!

It would have been over $3200 regularly!

(PS,thanks to the original poster. I was just gonna settle for the low- or mid-level PB! Anyone know why they took 20 dollars off for upgrading the RAM? and I downgraded the HD because I figured I would upgrade it at a later time).

    Only downside? 3-4 weeks delivery...I WANT IT NOW! <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>

    Your very welcome. ENJOY

    aw darn...found this...

"In addition, we request that students fax a copy of student identification AND proof of current class registration in developer-related courses. Apple reserves the right to refuse access to this offer by non-students and/or non-developers."

    <a href="http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html"; target="_blank">http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html</a>;

do you think I can pass off my Civil Engineering classes for "developer-related"?

although, they don't actually give a fax number so who knows...I'll wait until I get an email from them asking me to prove I'm in "developer-related" courses (which I am).

ARGH! Apple is at it again. Configure a 1GHz TiBook at the US store... you can upgrade to 1GB of RAM for $300 US, apply an instant $260 credit, and it costs you a whopping $40 to got to 1GB. Obviously a no-brainer, and a hell of a deal.

Do the same thing at the Canadian Apple Store, and what does it cost you? $480 CDN. ($300 US)

No discounts now at the Canadian store. They were there with the previous models....

Dude, you are one stupid fsck. You hang out on a RUMOR forum and still, you buy a new computer when the rumors say that new ones are around the corner?

You will get shit from Apple. It's your own "fault" that you messed up.</strong><hr></blockquote>

The problem was the my PowerMac G4 broke down. I had no choice, since I was without a computer for a few weeks, and had nightly papers to write. I couldn't keep using my neighbor's computer like that. I waited and waited and waited and waited and waited. October 15th, they said. October 25th, they said. There was nothing I could do...

That really does suck, but I guess that's how it is in the personal computer industry. There is always something faster and/or cheaper coming.

The Powerbooks were a huge surprise because the new low end superior to the previous high-end *and* cheaper than the previous low-end. They really shook things up in the PB line this time. Much more than usual. Still, it's something Apple needed to do and it's something everybody wanted to see (except for people who just bought one before the update.)
