at least i think it would be more Phone + iPod...

apple comes out with a product that would kill their own products?..

how are they going to change the consumer's idea from

'oh, i don't need mp3 play back on a phone, cus i have an ipod"

    to

"oh, i have an iPhone, i need an iPod, too.

    ?

my guess is that they see the market for digital music moving into the cell phone market. now that memory is getting cheaper per GB cell phone providers will probably soon offer phones with near as much memory as an iPod nano etc.

I think this is a smart move on Apple's part and who knows maybe they will find a way to influence the customer that they need both.

Look at the other patent thread, it's pretty clear the iPod will probably become the iPhone and vice versa and so on. One big screen with software based interfaces(buttons).

Basically right now Apple is noticing that there is a certain crowd that doesn't want to carry around both an iPod and a phone and since a lot of phones are offering music playback it's only natural for Apple to get into the game by offering an iPod with phone (and other) abilities.

Now the big question is, can you imagine holding your iPod up to your ear to talk to someone? I guess it's no worse then any of those blackberry monsters that are becoming so popular.

Cool.... but I think Apple will have a hard time convincing people to get new phone numbers without zero's in it.

Dont forget that the patent makes several references to a touchscreen capability and changable interfaces. we may see something that relies almost entirely on a touchscreen/touch wheel interface. Any thoughts? I also see Apple as recognizing that maximizing the screen size is an enormous wow factor...and with a movie service on the way this may lend additional credibility to this point.

that would make a sweet iPhone or iPod... that is if Apple fixes the problem that the current iPods have with easily scratched screens

that looks kinda like #5 from this list. Here is the list, to keep the creativity and speculation running high. Of course whenever Apple does come out with an iPhone, it will take #1 on this list.
