For whatever reason that I cannot figure out, my ipod will no longer display on my desktop. I've reformatted it twice and have the most recent software version for it. It is a BW clickwheel version. It used to display on my desktop but no longer.. any ideas of what the issue is?? Im running 10.4.7 on a PPC G5.

Have you considered that it's a firewire problem-- sounds like something that happened to me with an external drive. Firewire has been really flakey for me, so I switched to USB 2.0 and all is well. I know that's not an option for you, but if you have something like DiskWarrior, it might help you.

If you choose preferences under Finder(apple - ,) there you have the options to choose which type of icons to show on your desktop, one of them is CD, DVD and iPod, enable that, and see if it works

I would have to rule out a FW problem due to the fact my ipod updates fine when it is plugged in via FW. Here is a weird happening, it does show up momentarily on the desk top when I first connect it to the computer, like after it has ran out of juice and Im recharging it, but then it disappears.

It never worked for me, but perhaps booting from the OS X cd and using disk utility would work. Might be worth a try, even just to find out the answer. My hunch is no, but here's to hoping! Good luck.

Have you checked in the iTunes iPod preferences that the iPod is set to be used as a Hard Drive?

If yes, does the iPod show up in Apple's Disk Utility?

It's the tick box that says "Enable disk use". If it isn't ticked, the iPod won't show up on the desktop.
