Man, you're about a month late. I just sold my 366. It runs Jag. well. Some people have a problem with 800X600 but it really is not much of a problem. I also used Photoshop on it and it is going to be a lot slower than your desktop but it ceartainly is quite useable. Good luch in your search!

Got my 366 Indigo right here. Just fixed the cd drive mechanism (replaced the entire drive) just yesterday. Only one problem its my only computer or else I would sell it to you.

I have a 466 graphite SE with 320 MB ram, and as much as I'd love to say otherwise, OS X 10.2.2 runs crap on it. I'm getting myself one of those 800 MHZ iBook with a 32 mb ATI mobile - I consider that the bare minimum to run OS X

Bro you know what, if I were you I would go down to CompUSA, and apply for their 6 months no interest card and pick up a new ibook 800. Get the faster processor, the cooler smaller notebook, and you will be so happy that you did, even if it puts you in the poor house for a few months (years?) :-)

I have a 700 with 384 MB RAM, and 10.2.2 runs just fine. NB that the 750fx has other improvements than just higher clock rates.

That's definately not the bare minimum. My 500MHz iBook with 640MB RAM runs Jaguar fine.

You can run OS X on it. I did, I didn't mind the speed much, but really, it's much easier to just go with 9. 9 is really really good. All the new things in OS X are peachy keen, but OS 9 on a 366 MHz PowerPC is basically a perfected experience, a finished product. There's no reason to chug along using X feeling like the dumb cousin.

i'm going to agree with you 100% that ibook running 9 will be snappier than any apple system out there running X

    I wouldn't go that far.

I'm sure my dual tower running X is faster than a 366 MHz G3 running 9. Things are pretty much instant on my machine.

I'd agree with murbot that you are proabably wrong! My Tibook800 does fly and I cant imagine 9 being much better really.

I only meant that using 9 on an early iBook is in all ways satisfying, not that a 366 MHz iBook can beat a dual 1.25 GHz G4 with a high-end AGP 4X card running OS X. That's 6.8 times as many clock cycles available, plus QE and the Altivec optimizations.

We were speaking more towards progmac, saying that an iBook in OS9 would be snappier than any apple system out there in OSX.

Certainly an early iBook running OS9 is very acceptable. If I had one, I wouldn't bother trying to run OSX on it. Nothing wrong at all with having a zippy little OS9 laptop.

(damn, don't let me talk myself into getting one...)

    X vs 9.

    Powerbook 1Ghz

    1GB RAM

    60GB stock drive

X runs faster than 9 for me, thanks to QuartzExtreme and better Altivec support.
