iMac Updates - easy small upgrades

iMac's still have some room to expand:

1) Bluetooth Class 1 - 100 Meter range

2) Glossy Screen - Like the newer laptops

3) 802.11n

4) Better speakers -add Bose speakers or something like this. The ones in the iMacs now are terrible.

5) Multimedia keyboard with USB 2.0 - there are a lot of cool/useful multimedia keyboards out there and since macs are all about multimedia, this could be done very well. Also, the USB ports on the keyboard need to be upgraded to 2.0.

6) Built in iPod doc - It would be helpful in reducing cords to have a build in iPod doc somewhere.

7) Built in FM tuner - software where we can listen to local stations

8) More ports - Minimum of 4 USB and 3 Firewire.

Agree with all of these except number 7.

    1) I'm not sure Apple will consider this neccesary. For Apple BT is a cable/wire replacement, WiFi should be covering that range networking.

    2) The option would be nice

    3) Rumours are they already do.

    4) Going back to the optional Apple Pro Speaker would be nice.

    5) Keyboard is long overdue a few new features. What on earth are the Keyboard Team at Apple doing right now? USB2 was a must about 3 years ago and a flash card reader hidden on the back of the keyboard would be much appreciated.

    6) Perhaps towards the rear of the keyboard?

    7) What ? Why? FM tuners cost nothing and everyone's got 3 or 4 in the house already. Never tried the iTunes radio or Podcasts? FM Tuners on the Mac were a good idea in the Performas back in 1994ish. Apple wants to sell content so build in analogue technology.

8.) More Ports - yes yes yes. Right now I've got two ugly USB hubs spoiling the gorgeous look of my iMac.

There is not nearly as much point in having a glossy screen on a desktop TFT. They can be considered useful on laptop TFTs because, due to obvious weight and thickness restrictions, laptop TFTs cannot have the same thick, heavy and strongly bright backlights as desktop TFTs do.

A desktop TFT however is already very bright, so a glossy variant would arguably be a solution in search of a problem.

I think some of the HDTV's on the market right now with glossy LCDs look pretty good for the Sitting Room and as the iMac 24" is nearing the point of replacing these kind of TVs having the option would be good especially if we see a black iMac in the future.
