Hello, I read somewhere here a comparison between the 100gb 7200 rpm and the 120 gb 5400 rpm hard drives. I read that the 120 gb 5400 rpm was the smarter choice since the fact that 120 gb implies more condensed info thus making up for slower rpm in read time since similar information is packed closely together. But I was wondering, is there a difference in the energy drain of the hard drive IE 7200 rpm hard drive sucks up more battary juice? Just curious.

    i dropped a 100gb 7200 rpm Hitachi in my macbook. slightly faster with no difference in battery life, if anything, its slightly longer.

    Define 'slightly'....Is it worth it to go from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm?

    not enough to matter. i'd suggest BIGGER is better in this case. 100gb is nice, but I'm already wanting 160gb. Too many parallels images @ 20gb each eats a lot of HD space.

    The tests I've seen showed that the difference in battery life amounted to about three minutes for the 7200 RPM drives vs 5400.



    IIRC, the 120 5400 drive isn't quite as fast as the 100 7200 drive. The 160 5400 drive is probably comparable or or faster than the 100 7200 drive because of the density difference.

    my mac book comes with a sata 150 drive, I got the 80g model, and I am already looking to upgrade the size can i use a sata 300 and gain any benefit? If i do it myself does it void the warrantee?

    It would work, but I would not expect to see a speed increase because of SATA 300 unless the drive controller is also SATA 300. I think it probably would just fall back to SATA 150 mode.
