Weird QuickTime problem

QT has started playing up ( possibly due to iTunes 7..)

It works fine for AVI, WMV, DiVX but behaves oddly with MPG 1 and 2.

Theres no sound. The video plays for about 10 seconds then freezes, if I pause and then play it will run for another few seconds, then freeze again. I can do this as many times as I like, always follows the same pattern.

The problem is the same in finder view, QT player or web plugin. All other formats work fine in all three ways.

I've re-installed QT player, removed all of the components, replaced components from a working machine, even deleted the lot, removed the receipt and totally re-installed QT. None of this has made any difference.

Any suggestions?

I had problems when I had this one installed XVIDDelegate and once removed my problems disappeared completely.

I am also now using this app which is free and does the job of several plugins for QT it name is Perian_0.5 and can be found here http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30931

Also are there any error messages at all when this happens

Yep, XVIDDelegate was the culprit, I actually thought I'd tried removing all of the components, guess I missed this one. Cheers.
