Is it just me or is it taking longer to update the store than normal?

    Well, it's really happened - from Apple.com:

A 2.16GHz or 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Up to 39% faster than its predecessor.(1) A built-in iSight for instant video conferencing on the move. Front Row with Apple Remote to dazzle everyone in the room. Now available in 15- and 17-inch models starting at just $1999. Start your engines.

    Performance squared

MacBook Pro is built on the revolutionary Intel Core 2 Duo — which packs the power of two processor cores (up to 2.33GHz) inside a single chip. It provides 4MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. But the new engine is only part of the story. MacBook Pro supports hard drives up to 200GB and up to 3GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory. And now every MacBook Pro boasts both a FireWire 800 port and a double-layer burning SuperDrive. Ultimate speed, performance, and connectivity. To go. That’s MacBook Pro.

Check it out. They look sweeeeeeeeeet!

I'm just waiting for the Australian store to come back online and I'll order mine!

Nice. But only 2 RAM slots, and therefore extremely costly to update to over 2GB RAM. Everything else is really nice, though.

What notebooks have more than two RAM slots? This isn't a challenge, simply a question. When I spec'd out a Dell or HP with higher memory than 2GB, the memory cost skyrockets, so I assume that they too are only offering two slots. I do wonder why Apple stopped at 3GB, it's possible for the chipset to use 4GB, just expensive.

Actually, I didn't check other notebooks... I was simply hoping for 4 RAM slots and a 4 GB RAM limit. RAMJET sells 2GB DDR-667 SO-DIMMs for $269, so the cost is not all that prohibitive (at the Swiss Apple store, going from 2 to 3 GB is around $600).

The strange 3GB limit is also there in the 24" iMac. Why that is, I have no idea.

Here is an example. Apple will probably do it next year, unless there is no really interest in this market. SPARCbooks are a completely different story.

The Apple US price is close to that too. I wasn't aware that the memory price dropped that much. I looked out of curiosity several months ago and the price of that memory was more than $1k per stick.

Apple has no interest in the portable workstation or DTR markets. Not elegant enough for them.

    Too small a market.
