New MBP CD2 vs. iMac G5 20" (last rev.)?

Hi all,

If you've seen my posts, you know I ordered a new MB to replace my last rev. iMac G5 (1.5GB RAM) I was wondering what you think I can expect in terms of performance. My iMac moves along well, but does give me the old spinning ball sometimes. I am also less than impressed with the graphics. I tried the Doom 3 Demo on it and it wouldn't play worth a shit at even medium settings.

Your thoughts on:

Browsing

E-mail

Word

Games (3D)

iTunes encoding, CD burning

DVD encoding, ipod encoding

Interface

iMovie and iPhoto

The machine is a 2.33GHZ/2GB/256MB graphics with a 160GB drive. I know it will be faster, with maybe the exception of Word. Any ideas specifically though? Yes, this might just be an excuse to talk about my order again!

I've got the last iMac G5 revision as well as a MBP pro.

3d Graphics on the MBP are significantly better.

Games will be faster for you.

Most of the other stuff I have noticed less of a difference.

I did find compiling in XCode to be faster.

You will be happ - the MBP is well designed.

Nice. Can't wait to get my bluetooth modem functionality back. I had it with my 1.25 powerbook. Obviously I have no need for it with the iMac. Going on the road for T-giving week....can't wait to try it out!
