Can someone tell me if there are virus checkers and firewalls for Macs?

Erm... sounds like a silly question!

There must be.

I'm a newbies to Macs.

In the Mac ads... they say something like "viruses? they're for pc's only. who's ever heard of a virus on macs!?".

Surely this can't be true?

And how about Firewalls??

Thanks.

OS X uses ipfirewall, which owns.

And you don't need Antivirus at all. If you're insane, i guess you could get ClamXAV.

True about the antivirus. That, of course, doesn't mean you should feel compelled to install any old software you run into. Programs have to be given approval to install on Macs, so don't be careless and all will be well without antivirus.

OS 10.4 has a built-in firewall. Open System Preferences, click on the Sharing button, select the Firewall tab and turn the firewall on. For extra protection, click the Advanced button and check all the boxes.

ClamXAV is free, but you don't need it.
