Have you purchased your PowerBook?

Maybe I'm just being a masochist here, asking to remind myself how I'll never be able to afford one, but I would be very interested to know who has ordered a PowerBook since MWSF.

So, if you have, please reply stating which model you purchased (and if you picked it up or just pre-ordered), where you purchased it, and the price, if you don't mind. Also any extra things you purchased along with it in terms of accessories would be nice. Also try to give us all an idea of how, in the case of the $3,000.00+ PowerBooks, you are able to afford such expensive luxuries. I'm a poor college student, so I need some direction.

If you haven't purchased, but are planning on it once they start coming in stock, or want to play with it first, or are so cautious that you must wait until after the first several months to ensure you don't fall victim to some fluke early production glitch in the manufacturing process, or if you simply need to save up for a good number of months to afford the model you want, like the $3,149-edu-priced lapzilla (such as I am lusting after), feel free to share.

Thanks in advance.

12" Combo mini PB. No upgrades. Very good edu deal not available on Superdrive or I would have bought that instead. I'll probably pick up a 512MB RAM stick in a few months though.

Currently shopping for a nice bag/sleeve combo. I'm one of the first in line at this edu dealer, haven't found out about their first shipment yet.

-> <- This close to buying a 17" today. But decided the money was better off in the bank for the next 10 weeks , as apposed to in the CC bill.

I ordered a 12" Combo, 60GB drive, and a 512MB SO-DIMM from Apple. It's to replace my Wallstreet which is getting a bit old for travel. I was set to get the 800Mhz iBook, but figured I'd better wait 'till MWSF just in case - glad I did.

    Ordered myself a Mini Turbo.

12.1" PB, 60 GB HD, 640 MB RAM, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme

For once the price on RAM in these babies isn't too much of a scam up here in Canada, so I ordered it. $80 CDN to go to an 80 GB hard drive seemed like a no-brainer.

Ordered it right after the store opened up, so hopefully it's not too long of a wait.

I already have a pro keyboard to use at home. Purchases in the near future will be a sleeve/bag of some sort, a bluetooth mouse (do these exist?), and a CoolPad.

Haven't even looked at the mouse thing BTW...

I just got the go ahead from the wife to spend the money. I really want to look at it before I buy. When I do. 12" with the SD and two airports. One for the wife's iBook and one for me. God I wish the Apple Stores had them to show off!

I'm waiting until I can actually hold a minibook in my hands before I plunk down the CC for an order.

Like a lot of people, I was waiting for MWSF to happen before I decided what to do. I had my mind set on an iBook, hoping they were going to be bumped up to 1Ghz G3's. Now I'm leaning heavily toward the Powerbook 12" because of the G4, the slot-load drive (never liked the idea of a flimsy tray on a laptop), and the slick new aluminium casing.

But like I said, I'm holding out for a month or two so I can check one out at CompUSA (no Apple Stores in these parts).

Good luck to you ... and to whoever gets their order in: I want a full report!

Well, I haven't technically ordered it, but since I work at an apple reseller, I'm gonna buy a 12" Super when they come in.

Okay I bought. 12" w/ Superdrive 40GB and stock RAM. Also got AirPort Extreme and at AirPort card for the wife, two locks and a firewire web cam  Got it all at Smalldog.com

The edu price after tax was the same as retail.

I just ordered the 12" PowerBook to replace my PM G4 QuickSilver 800MHz! I ordered it in the following config:

    867MHz

    256MB DDR SDRAM

    60GB Hard Drive

    SuperDrive

    Airport Extreme Card

The total ticket cost me $2308 from the Apple Store. It will be 2-4 weeks before I get it.

I've read many threads from many websites about this particular model. Some have been good, some bad. I think this machine is great. So great in fact, that I'm replacing my PM G4 with it. It has faster RAM, same bus speed, comparable hard drive size, faster CPU and the same GPU. Plus, I can hook it up to and external VGA with maximum 1600x1200 resolution. This is basically a Quicksilver G4 tower in a 12" case. Plus, I get Bluetooth so that I can use my Sony Cell Phone with it and I get a faster Airport network. For the price, you can't beat this little machine.

Friday I ordered my 17" G4 PowerBook with 1Gig of RAM and the Brenthaven case. That's all the accessories it will take. I already have an extra keyboard and a real mouse (2 buttons and scoll wheel). I had to hold off on the Airport Exreme Base Station, but hope to get one soon.

Had to get this since my G4 has been commandered by my son and wife. :-)

We also ordered a PowerMac G4 server and a bunch of other stuff, but that is for the office.

Can't wait, it's going to be better that Christmas!

Since the SuperDrive is a CTO option (it has the little "custom-built" icon next to it in the online store), will the Apple Stores stock that configuration?

It may not matter to me, if I get one I want to up the hard drive and might as well get the RAM from Apple, rather than just tossing out the 128MB that's already in the slot.

Someone feel free to talk me out of this purchase and wait for the 12-inch to get DVI-out. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Everything I need for a mobile office. Just started up a business this year, and that's pretty much what I'm going to start up with. We're doing computer consulting, web design, networking, computer troubleshooting, and more. Ain't it cool that we're all mac users! I talked to my accountant (my pop) and he said I can write all this stuff off. We're having a kickass year already and it'll be good not to have to pay too much in taxes. Anywho, just wanted to share

If you know exactly what you're going to order why wait? Because of money?

ordered a 12.1" with a superdrive and the extra 512k or ram from the apple store, plus i went for applecare on the book too ... can never be too careful especially with first revision machines ram seemed fairly priced compared to prices the same day on crucial ... apple may have finally cut their markups on that

my local apple centre here in the uk isn't expecting demo units for 4-6wks: however my apple store order says 2-4 wks so i think i should have it by valentine's day. if so i'll have a quiet night in and sod everything else

oh and saved £180 off the list price with an edu discount. sweet! i am very excited ... i too was going to buy an ibook but waited for mwsf ... my first lappie looks like a real winner! fingers x'd

Yeap, that's the Dev discount. Gotta love it! I would love to place that order today, but since stuff isn't even shipping for 2-4 weeks, it'd be much better if I start saving up now, do the Apple Loan in April, giving me till around July to pay it off without interest. Being early in Jaunary, that gives me about 6 months total to save up. Oh it's gonna be sweet!!!
