XServer question?

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
I had a few doubts about the software I could run on the Xserver. I know it uses a modified version of Jaguar (the server version) as the OS. But my real question is : Could I run all the software I run on my PowerBook with OS X.2 ?

I´m thinking about buying one to replace my current desktop (PC) . and since I found the floor stands (http://www.marathoncomputer.com/vertx.html), I would actualy save some space.

I´m aware of the noise I´ll have to endure, but I think I can stand it since I´m allready used to the dual fans on the PC I´m trying to replace.

thanks,

Luis

X.2 server is 10.2, with the addition of some apps that aid in server and account/user management. There's nothing you can do in 10.2 server that you can't do in vanilla 10.2 through the terminal.

So, yes, you will be able to run all your 10.2 apps on 10.2.

    Have you heard it?

I just listenend to someone's mp3 version of it and it is quite annoying. Not desktop material.

Yeah, I heard it's a lot worse than any regular desktop PC for noise. As in, as loud as a vacuum cleaner or possibly even a lawn mower. Here's an article about it:

    Here's the follow up:

So it's loud enough to drown out the questions that students ask. I dunno if I could tolerate it being that loud.
