  • Apple CEO Tim Cook urges employees to 'move forward together' in memo on 2016 presidential election

Let me take a wild guess that had Hillary Clinton won Tim Cook wouldn't have wrote this letter.
    You make a good point.
    ...

Its not a good point at all. Read the article - Trump has said some very strange stuff directly about Apple in the campaign.

And if Hillary had won there wouldn't have been any need for a letter to the staff because she didn't suggest that she had a problem with Mexicans, Muslims and various other minority groups.

For those reasons, Tim felt the need to reassure his staff.

Its going to be fascinating to see Trump attempt to deliver on his promises of reversing globalisation and bringing jobs back to America. I hope he does it, but I doubt it's even possible. Luckily I get to watch that one from the safety of another country.
It is certainly possible to bring back some of those jobs as it was politics that sent them to China in the first place. As for Mexicans (really all people south of the border) there are legal ways to enter the country. Right now illegals have an outwardly large negative impact on the economy especially with local governments that have to support people that have nothing to offer this country. Frankly I'd prefer that people crossing the border illegally simply be shot on site as it is a far more effective way to control the problem than a wall. That obviously would enrage the snowflakes, but a pile of bodies would end illegal immigration from the south rather quickly.

As for Muslims, the problem isn't the people per say, it is rather that gourds like ISIS and others have used the exodus as a way to infiltrate terrorists. This has been very effective in France and Germany and hard to deny. Frankly Muslims would be more welcomed in this country if they would publicly condemn terrorism and try to treat woman a bit better. History is full of religions being ostracized by the dominate religion of a region, sometimes these religions die out under pressure from the dominate. Beyond that Muslims practice a religion called Islam they aren't a minority group and neither are Mexicans for that matter.

Globalization isn't a problem per say. The problem is one of balanced treaties and fair play.

  • Apple releases iTunes 12.5.1 with all-new Apple Music design, iOS 10 support, Siri commands in Sier

Hope they fixed all the bugs in the last version!!!   ITunes seems to get worst with each release.  Sad really, I suspect the ITunes team needs new management as, software shouldn't see so many regression from release to release.

If we can stop the mass slaughter and incomprehensible fiscal expense of waging war like we have for decades, it just might let everyone in our country calm down enough so we can work together to build the America ALL of us want.
Not so quick, we can't stop the mass slaughter just yet.

Remember, we need to wipe ISIS out completely and swiftly. That's a promise and a core issue, and I trust that it will be taken care of rapidly, after the man is in office.

So there is still some mass slaughter that we can look forward to and enjoy, and we'll see what happens after that, but one step at a time.
ISIS is a tiny problem the real issue is Iran and frankly that is a country that really deserves a mass slaughter.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook touring China, pledges Asia-Pacific R&D center

I'm sure Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli will welcome reading regular reports on the progress of research at the center, before Tim does, and that Chinese phone manufacturers will welcome not having to pay for their own research, thanks to friends in high places.

Have you thought of Australia, New Zealand or India, Tim?
The stupidity of Cooks move here is astounding. It is pretty obvious that China is preparing for war in the Pacific, what they don't realize Is that such a war will make a mess of China itself. For Apple though the real problem is that they put themselves in a position to loose a lot when that war comes. I've repeatedly have said that Apple has too much exposure in China already. They could easily find themselves without any production capacity at all. Even if a shooting war doesn't happen initially a rational response to a China attack on a neighbor would be a trade embargo.

armchair executives complaining about apple pricing -- news at 11.
Who's an armchair executive? This isn't MacRumors. My criticisms were sensibly phrased and thought about. I've long-since owned AAPL. I think like a customer now. If you think price shouldn't matter to the customer, you are wrong.
I'm not a price-sensitive purchaser of Apple gear. So this is rather academic to me.

That said, there has been a lot of international market volatility this year. Brexit and such. So currency markets on top of a price hike make for a large jump in some areas.

It might seem easy for me to say as an American, but in light of our recent election it's quite possible tarrifs on Asian manufactured Macs will cause a jump in American pricing soon.
Lord have mercy when this knee-jerk neanderthal gets in. Between that and George Bush taking to acrylic painting I don't know what to make of it all anymore.
    Knee Jerk Neanderthal  --  Really?

One of the reasons I voted for Trump, beyond that fact that Hillary is mentally ill in my opinion, is that he expressed a more rational approach to Russia.    Hillary's desire to confront Russia would do nothing but create an environment for another massive war.   A war by the way that would impact Americans by the millions.   Now I can't say that Trump will be successful with Russia but we need to at least try a more rational approach.

Now was far as Mac and tariffs go, frankly it is a start.   So much manufacturing has left the USA that we have no choice but to do something to turn the tide.   Manufacturing is what built the middle class in the USA and that manufacturing hasn't been replaced with lucrative work in other fields.    In the end the lack of viable jobs will result in social instability which we are already seeing to some extent.

So if these are the policies of a neanderthal then we should all become neanderthals.

  • Intel plots attack on Apple's partnership with TSMC, looks to build A-series chips by 2018

    rob53 said:
If Intel becomes a commodity chip foundry, will they be monitored to make sure they don't steal chip designs from Apple and others? What's to keep them from simply "using" (yes, stealing) the chip designs they will have the engineering specs for? I've always been worried about Samsung stealing Apple's designs and hope that the US DoJ will go after Intel if they do steal Apple's designs. Of course, the DoJ hates Apple so they'd probably let Intel steal the designs and blame Apple for not protecting them or some BS.

On the other hand, if Intel becomes an ARM foundry, would Apple try and figure out an agreement with Intel that allows Apple and Intel to co-design and produce desktop CPUs or SoC systems that would allow multi-core (6+) A-series CPUs with more powerful GPUs (AMD/Nvidia/?) that would actually compete with Intel's (slow to come to market) desktop CPUs? Removing the power and heat restrictions on the A-series should allow for faster CPUs and more powerful GPUs. I'm not sure Apple is really contemplating changing everything to their A-series but who knows, it might happen? As for building everything in the USA, this would only happen if Apple could design their mobile devices to be 98% robot assembled. This would negate the benefit of the Chinese work force. Of course, Apple still needs China for raw materials.

disclaimer: I could care less about what Trump wants but I would mind seeing more American companies reap the benefits of Apple's production chain. Of course, with robots building everything, the US will need to figure out how to deal with even more unemployment, which also means lack of spending, hurting Apple's bottom line.
I think you are a bit off the tracks here.   Intel isn't likely to steal any bodies designs.  In the case of ARM processors and Apples unique designs theft would be so obvious that Intel would be able to hide it.

As as for co designing  chips I would imagine Apple has some input already with all chips that connect to the A series processors.  It should be noted that some chips have Apple specific part numbers.  As for what Apple will engineer into the A series chips who knows, the next process shrink doubles the space available to them.  GPU performance is a given and another core will likely happen but I suspect sometime soon we will see Apple trying to leave the rest of the industry behind.  In that regard I'm expecting hardware to support AI/machine learning, functionality.  That might happen in an obvious way or they might sneak the functionality into the GPU.   Apple will be releasing initial APIs for machine learning in iOS 10, so I suspect there is a long term plan here.

As fir Trump he is a hard guy to like but I look at it this way the democrats have demonstrated that they don't deserve to be in office.  Obama specifically has fanned the flames of racial hate in this country and undermined the ability of people with lower incomes to move forward.  Effectively Obama's  policies have had the impact of keeping poor people poor in this country.    One of the worst things he has done is to open our borders to people that effectively lower wages, even displace working people, often at rates well below minimum wage.  Instead of lifting people up he has pushed them down with a big boot across their neck.
  • How Donald Trump's election as U.S. President could affect Apple

I'm surprised some people seem to object to this article--I think it's useful and interesting to contemplate, based on what we know so far, and this is a thoughtful effort. And perhaps the biggest point is that we don't know much about what he would really do or be able to do, given that so many of his proposals have been more conceptual than concrete or consistent, and based on the perspective of a real estate developer rather than someone with a knowledge of government. As that changes, a more clear picture should emerge.

One additional point is that some of his more globally controversial proposals could lead to a weaker dollar, which would clearly be good for Apple in some ways, as long as those same proposals didn't hurt Apple more in other ways. (Please don't take this as an invitation for angry off-topic rants--I've done my best to keep mine objective.)
The problem with the article is that it is garbage, pure speculation. Beyond that there is every reason to believe that Clinton would have done much worst when it comes to our Bill of Rights freedoms. The fact is the current administration played with our rights in many ways that frankly are scary to anybody that been around for any length of time. It is foolish to say Trump would be worst when we have had an administration that has been so hostile to the constitution.

  • Anticipating WWDC 2016: What's in store for Apple's Macs and OS X

DED needs to hang up the pen!     First WWDC has never been all about software.   Hardware has always been part of the event be it new Macs, or session on supporting hardware features or new facilities.   I know this may shock some people but there are developers out there building support hardware for Macs.

Second; an ARM based Mac wouldn't be a Mac if it ran iOS.   The only way to be successful with an ARM based Mac is to deliver a machine that runs Mac OS as freely as current i86 machines.  Why everybody thinks ARM can't run Mac OS is beyond me.  Honestly folks just look at the machines running Linux just fine.

  • How the UK's Brexit vote to leave Europe affects Apple

I'm actually happy for the UK!

As as for the EU, screw them.   They are the one responsible for lead free solder in electronics.  The directive that resulted in lead free electronics is a prime example off over reach by a bunch of government ministers.

By by the way it isn't a matter of of lead being good, it obviously isn't.  The problem is rather that you shouldn't mandate something until a viable replacement is at hand.  Instead we got years of unreliable electronics.

To to some this may seem extreme but the lead free solder is alone one good reason to want to see the breakup of the EU.   When you have regulators drawing up new laws just for the hell of it, or without thought about the conchs quenches of their actions, you have problems.   I feel for the people of the U.K., living on a Small island isnt the same as living on the mainland.   You need enough local control to address the realities placed upon you by the land.
