  • M3 24-inch iMac vs M1 24-inch iMac -- Specs, price, and features, compared

How about throwing the guts of an M3 Macbook Pro or Max into the Studio Display and call it the "27" iMac Pro?"  The tooling is already there for the monitor and display. How hard could that be?

  • Apple AI, visionOS 2.0, iOS 18: What to expect from Apple during WWDC 2024 on June 10

Looking forward to the M3 Mac Studio (probably Ultra) so I can finally retire my 2017 iMac Pro.

  • M2 Pro Mac mini vs Mac Studio - compared

It's sort of odd they didn't also update the Studio offerings. Perhaps they will skip the M2 and go directly to the M3 @ 3nm.  It's entirely possible the M2 Max Macbook will be faster/more feature complete than any Studio other than the Ultra version. After reviewing the specs on the M2 Max Macbook, it sort of obsoletes the Max version of the Studio. For now.

  • M3 MacBook Air update due in March, M3 Mac Pro in late 2024

It's disappointing if Apple doesn't release the M3 Mini and Studio by June.  They could release the standard, Pro, and Max versions right now, but they're probably waiting until they can build up an inventory of Ultra chips so they can release all of the models at the same time

  • If you're expecting a Mac mini at WWDC, you're probably going to be disappointed

I would think that they would get the M4 Studio out sooner than later. I can't imagine many people are buying the M2 variants currently available, especially since the M3 Max has been out in laptop form for months.   I'm STILL waiting to upgrade my aging (but still competent) iMac Pro from 2017.

  • M2 Pro, M2 Max, and beyond: Examining the Apple Silicon release cycle

I would like apple to make things more upgradable this would help consumers get the most out of their system,  as I am in the situation  where we have a 2011 imac with spinning ball of death . The monitor is awesome but is not compatible with the Mac mini m1 . So i create ecological waste which I hate . I could shell out another $1500 to get an m1 24 inch iMac ( a lot of money in a uncertain global economy) but I’m sure un upgrade is just around the corner . My children want Mac books  but we have older iPads lingering around the house which no doubt will not be able to accept the new iOS and will be deemed obsolete . I just cringe at the fact of shelling out thousands only to find like the iPhone the cycles start to change year after year with small tweaks but then the software suddenly makes what was  a large investment for some obsolete like iPad and iPhone . Being able to change the boards or chips would be amazing instead of hard soldering onto the boards and not allowing memory upgrades. I’d be quite pissed to have bought an m1 only to find out later that they strapped 2 together to make a more advanced chip so close to purchasing ( the old pull it out of the box and it’s value drops by half before you turn it on routine )
min all for new tech but make it fair apple stop touting environmentally friendly builds when they can’t be upgraded and software makes them obsolete. Please !

When Apple relied on Intel, things were a bit more predictable.  Now that they have this staggered product upgrade cycle, it causes people to question upgrading at a particular time.  M2 is out while most of the product line is still M1- M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra.   The M2 Mac Mini is still not released. That means you have to either buy the original or buy the old (overpriced) Intel model.  27" iMacs may be returning, but nobody knows when for sure.  There will be a new ASi Mac Pro, but nobody knows when or what it will entail.   I fully understand Apple does not want to have the "Osborne effect" happen to them, so they have to be a little careful about what they promise and when.  "The Osborne effect is a social phenomenon of customers canceling or deferring orders for the current, soon-to-be-obsolete product as an unexpected drawback of a company's announcing a future product prematurely. It is an example of cannibalization."  I'm afraid Apple may have the Osborne effect in play here, whether they like it or not.  The old rule of thumb with Apple is to buy the best configuration you can afford and hope it lasts the 5-7 years that we typically get with Apple OS support.
