iPhone 15 Pro has faster 5G downloads -- assuming you've got good coverage
And they're getting this data from where? From the select few Apple employees who both have a iPhone 15 pro/pro max test unit and are also using this particular speed test service which I have never even heard of? So these tests were likely concentrated in very particular areas, and there may have been a grand total of 3 users using this particular speed test service. Why would any Apple employee even use "SpeedSmart" to test their phone?
I would not be surprised if the performance is actually better from last year, but this conclusion is extremely premature, unscientific, and a total conjecture. -
Shazam can now run in the background with Live Activities
This is pretty neat, but you still have to launch the app then keep it in the live activities island for as long as you want it running. A feature that androids have is you can set it to run completely invisibly in the background at all times whenever your phone is on. It then silently makes a note of every song that's ever playing around you at all times so that you can go back at any time and look up the name of what was playing at a particular time and place without EVER having to worry about launching the app or wondering if it's running or having it constantly take up space on your island. Now that's pretty cool. -

Masimo CEO: Apple users are better off without Apple Watch pulse oximetry
Only measures two times a day by default? That's absolutely not true. Mine measures numerous times during the day and constantly at night and there are no settings to make it measure less during the day. The only settings even available to change the frequency of measurements are two toggles to let you turn it completely off when in Sleep or Theater modes. -
Unistellar Odyssey Pro review: Unlock pro-level astronomy with your iPhone from your backy...
With this thing you're always looking at a screen. You're never actually looking directly at any objects through optical lenses, even with the Nikon eyepiece. It's all rendered digitally and displayed on your choice of screen. There's a lot about that fact that makes me wholeheartedly want nothing to do with this thing. I can pull up beautiful images of every visible part of this Universe online and look at it via a screen, why would I want to pay this amount of money to do exactly that same thing but with more steps and a slower process.
What I mean to say is that a telescope should allow you to look directly at an object with your eyes. Nothing but optics and lenses to magnify and sharpen the photons into your eye. No electronic conversions or processes messing with the image you see. This telescope removes ALL the awe and magic of being able to discern amazing celestial bodies with your own eye. I am ALL for telescopes that can auto find and focus on whatever object you want, but I have no interest in this completely digitized and over processed fake astronomy that removes any and all realness of traditional telescopes. For a second I thought the pro model with the viewfinder would be the saving grace here, but no, even the image you see through the viewfinder is merely another freaking digital screen. -
Stripe adds Apple Pay Later as a default option for merchants
I really don't understand these schemes. Why on earth would you want to chance not having the payments and ending up incurring interest, defaulting, and getting bad marks on your credit? For something under $1000...if you can't afford something that inexpensive in one go, you shouldn't be taking out a risky loan just to get it right now. At least with credit cards you can just pay the minimum if you can't afford to pay it all off in one go. And I'm not saying people should keep a balance on a credit card, that's not great either, but these little 6 week loans are ten times worse.
How can you truly not wait those 6 weeks? Save up that money you think you'd otherwise have to pay off the loan, and buy it in a normal transaction. A month and a half is not that long to wait to buy whatever nonessential item you think you need right away.
How exactly do you think these companies are making money on these short term loans? From the majority of their lower income customers being late or defaulting on payments and incurring huge fees and interest. These schemes are bad for consumers and it's truly a shame that Apple ever got into it. -
Google keeps trying to hammer on Apple for not adopting RCS
cropr said:As part of 5G standards, the 3GPP has defined a successor of SMS and this new standard is called RCS. RCS is again a telecom standard, which means that again it is device agnostic (it could be implemented on dumb phones) , legal intercept must be possible and the telecom operator can charge for the use of RCS. So Apple Insider is wrong when it claims that RCS is not an industry standard, but that is about all there is to say. RCS is not so popular as the telecom operators and Google want it to be, and only popular standards make sense.
