  • Alleged 'iPad Air 3' case suggests Smart Connector coming to Apple's 9.7-inch tablet

Indeed. I don't think I'm alone in being supremely tired of the gimmicky "Air" moniker.

I thought it was a pretty cheesy designation even for the first one.  It's only ever so slightly thinner and lighter than the other iPads.  Hardly revolutionary.
It was 1 pound vs 1.5 pounds and almost half as thick. Yeah, some "ever so slight" improvement.
    ...
I guess I exaggerated a bit.  It was about a third lighter as you say, but only a third thinner though (not half).  Still it didn't seem to me (or many others) to be so radically different as to be deserving of the "Air" name.  It's certainly a subjective determination though.  Others will of course think differently.
  • Munster: 4" iPhone doesn't make sense for rumored Apple event in March

    1) No one but AppleInsider really, actually thinks it will be called "iPhone 6c" despite plugging it in every single article on this site.

    2) How many times do we have to look at that ridiculous render (also placed on every story of this type) of the Android-esque iPhone that will literally NEVER happen.

I think there are four things driving iPhone:
    1. Longer replacement cycles as smartphones have become good enough and improvements are now largely incremental.
    2. Higher prices due to FX impacting demand
    3. Apple perhaps overestimating the % of the install base that wanted larger screen iPhone
    4. Intangible; some people just don't like the 6 series for whatever reason
I'd like to see Apple release a flagship 4" phone and then see what percent of
The rise of 40% of the US dollar over 2 years.... That's one major obstacle to buying in many places.
It may lead to you're #1, but the main factor is that.
Others are not a factor directly.
Indeed.  A 16Gb iPhone (commonly referred to on this forum as "useless"), costs one thousand dollars in Canada.  The prices are set to go up soon as well.

I still think that the answer (not that Apple will ever take it) is to reduce prices.  Apple still has the highest margins of all tech companies.  Their profit on each product has been variously estimated at two or three times the profit the other manufacturers make.

There are only so many rich people in the world.  They should try making a phone for the "regular" person instead of just the rich, if they truly want to dominate the market.  They could also try to be better world citizens and stop raping their customers for cash.

Why would a smaller iPad Pro be called the iPad Air 3? There is a $200 gap between the Air 2 and the Pro for a new product to slot into.

  • Apple CEO hints at more cross-platform services, says iPad revenue will rebound by year's end

iPad revenues will go back up because of the Apple Pencil.  As they add it to the iPad Air (and eventually to the mini), people will be forced to buy a new iPad.  Beyond that however, what are they going to do?  That's just next year, and just a blip.

Apple really doesn't seem to have a clue in how to make the iPad market grow in the long term.  Not only that, they seem to be moving in the wrong direction (with the noted exception of the Pencil).

Also, who really gives a rodent's behind about the super-rich Apple employees work benefits?  Most of the employees at Apple (barring the retail ones) are millionaires already. They already have the kind of working conditions one would expect in Canada or Europe and are thus far above the rest of the American population already.  Why should I as a customer of Apple care that they now have even more?
