This is a feature that I've been badly wanting for a while, but it's not working for me yet.

hoping the fact that it's an iPad Mini isn't a dealbreaker for portrait orientation

I said I wanted one. I bought a twelve, and immediately upgraded to a 13.

Bought my father a 12 Pro and he hated it ("digs into my crotch during golf swings,"), asked if he preferred my 13 and he said "oh yeah, this is way better). So I gave it to him and bought yet another 13.

There might be a fourth in there that I overlooked.

Hard disagree. Laptops are more likely to be used in mixed-lighting circumstances, where higher-contrast screens help visibility. I use my MBP in the sun all the time. Desktop displays are more likely to be in light-controlled rooms, much less relevant.

(nobody seems to be considering the possibility that Micro LED will be an optional upgrade…)

The iPad Mini is my favorite device and I will buy any new model sight-unseen (I'm staring at one in "sidecar" mode right now), but I have no idea why they'd bother with a mere spec-bump so soon after the current model. The performance is… fine?

"Requires no case on iPhone to use" That's like doing a review of a rubber case and saying "con: you can't have your leather case on while using this"

anyway, I have friend with one of these, typically leaves the pencil stuck to the back of his keyboard case. I borrowed it for a figure drawing class one night, worked great. The white color goes dirty after a while but imho it's an authentic, "this is a real organic thing I use every day" kind of patina, and it feels even nicer in hand than the slick shiny pencil material.
