  • Mac sales stabilize in Q4 amid worldwide PC shipment decline

Hmm, I don't know why people think this is positive?  An increase of 2.4% for the year where there was "pent up demand" is a bit disappointing. Two of the reports had negative growth in Q4 where there were new machines introduced!

I'm assuming the 13" rMBP and MBA are their most popular models but having had only 1 month of full on sales (2 months for the base 13" rMBP) of the new rMBP models, we'll have to see.

I think the followup quarter will be more telling.

Although I do feel the PC segment as a whole is to blame for lack luster sales, the $300 bump in prices for a more premium machine didn't help the situation.

  • Apple to offer 32GB of desktop RAM in top-end 2017 MacBook Pro, 16GB for 12" MacBook

The base model 13" is about $300 to expensive. Should be $1200 for a 8gb/256gb no frills machine.

Just kill the Air 13" and reduce the price (and throw in a hub, yeah right).

  • How Donald Trump's election as U.S. President could affect Apple

    Wow, just WOW.

I'm surprised Apple Insider is going into the realm of propaganda.

Please cite references when making claims. Trump has not mentioned taxing foreign revenue at 10%, where did you read that?
    Just goto the source: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/policies/tax-plan/?/positions/tax-reform

He wants to reduce corporate taxes from 35% -> 15%
He wants to repatriate offshore funds at a one-time rate of 10%, which Tim Cook is actually happy about.

I think the writer is getting confused with Bernie Sanders who wanted to tax US companies where ever they did business.

Either Apple Insider made a lazy mistake or is just spewing out false info.

  • Editorial: Apple survived 2016's onslaught of fake news and failed competitors

Article is a bit too defensive in nature, acting more like the "fake news" it's deriding.

2016 certainly wasn't Apple's best year, revenues down from 2015 which is note worthy considering the lineup contains new items (ipad 9.7 pro, and 12.9" model being 3months old going into the year) and more expensive memory options for iPhones, and of course the new Macbook Pros.

That's not to say it was a failure but invites criticism from those that have an opinion on how things should should be handled.

Also, the complaint about the biased media saying the Note 7 is packed full of innovation vs the iPhone 7. Well, it's not just them, just watch any of the popular Youtubers like MBKHD etc... they all say the same thing, "it's packed full of features". No one says that about the iPhone 7. It's because the iPhone executes the features it has well while the Note 7 is packed with tons and tons of features (useless?) with a bigger screen that's curved but has smaller footprint.

You really can't understand why everyone is saying it's packed???

I think Apple did well enough considering the iPhone 6ss, I mean 7.  But I do expect them to blow things out of the water with the iPhone 8, can't wait for it.

Unfortunately the US has screwed itself because of it's education system. You go to a Ph.D program and pretty much 80-90% of the PhD candidates are foreign born. Americans are getting degrees in psychology and sociology instead of STEM creating a huge opportunity for foreign workers especially foreign Software Engineers.

You hit the problem on the head Safi.  Steve Jobs made it clear, that contrary to popular understanding,  the greatest impediment to moving production to the US was the shortage of engineers (not just software BTW, there are many other engineering jobs necessary to run a heavily automated plant).  This is an opportunity with the new administration to shift back towards a training and education model focused on meeting job demand, rather than funding each persons "self-discovery."   Indeed, most of these type of engineering jobs won't require Phd, or even traditional 4 year schools.  Let the revolution begin.

PS,  it is wonderful to hear that there is so much discussion of creating good paying jobs in the tech and other industries.  Previous administrations of both parties had given up on this, so kudos to a fresh start and innovative thinking.
Agreed, the lack of qualified people is the biggest problem in the US. I guess Trump's focus on more vocational/technical skills type education would be a good first step.

  • Apple refuses to back GOP convention because of Trump politics

This is a major FAIL on Apple's part.  Never take sides in Politics, you never know who'll be in power.

They should know by now, politics is about all "What Have You Done For Me Lately?".

Imagine that you are an airline passenger, and you are boarding a new aircraft, of which a number of examples have recently crashed, and neither the airline nor the manufacturer has a fucking clue why. Yet, there you are. What's wrong with that picture?

No, as a matter of fact, Samsung hasn't handled this well, but hey, they know their buyers better than I do.
You do realize that phones do explode on a fairly regular basis... http://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-iPhone-6-bursts-into-flames-during-flight-from-Washington-to-Hawaii-plane-lands-safely_id79448 Let's hope Samsung figures out exactly why so we can all benefit from the knowledge and resulting safer products.

Personally, I love the fact that so many Trump trolls use products made by such a left leaning Northern California company.
(and then they call Apple "hypocritical") LOL
You mean a left leaning company that sells Elitist products?

Or a company built by a man who had liberal social views and conservative business views... like a certain someone who is running with orange hair.

  • Samsung not separating OLED business [updated]

All we *think* we know about Apple and OLEDs, is that they might be moving to them in 2017. Why people think there will be a wrap around screen, I don't understand. These are just mock-ups from people who know nothing about what Apple is planning.

So, will we see OLEDs in 2017? Possibly. Will we see a wrap around screen, um, well, maybe, but why?
Exactly, we have heard "The next iPhone will have OLED display" for years on end. It will happen if and when OLED's are actually better than the LCD's (unlike samsung apple has no specific vested interest in OLED's leaving them free to choose the best display for the product at the time) As for the curved screen, a feature (that you can easily bend OLED's) in search of a need. Curving screens make the phone less useful and more prone to damage. Again Samsung is hamstrung by the fact that they are trying to promote their OLED OEM business (where they make considerably more $$) rather than simply making the best phone possible (which is what Apple has the ability to do)
I guess you haven't been paying attention. The last several Galaxy S models received the highest rated display marks for any phone. Just do a search. Besides that, have you ever seen the blacks on an OLED device, especially in dimly lit rooms, it's awesome. OLED OLED OLED!!!!!! Can't come soon enough.
