Thanks but no thanks. Gonna stick to x86
#metoo.  Honestly who wouldn't.  It makes zero sense.  All microprocessor will be the same.  MacOS is built on x86.  Intel is a serious company. Rosetta runs x86.  It was built on x86 and the M-Chips are x86.  Fun Fact.

What? That makes no sense. I think you're missing a few details.

Before Apple adopted Intel processors, Mac OS (or OS X) ran on Motorola PowerPC chips.

Are you claiming that ARM chips (of which M-series chips are built) are actually built using Intel x86 architecture? Not true at all. ARM and x86 are entirely separate architectures. If your claim had any truth to it, Microsoft would not have had so much trouble rolling out their ARM-based Windows.

Rosetta translates executable code of applications, not the OS, that haven't yet been built for Apple silicon. That's the only role that Rosetta plays. macOS itself is not running ON Rosetta.
x86 are. MacOS is running on Objective-C.  The Robot language is still x86.  The PowerPC ships with Apple and Motorola are long gone, great SISC chips.  M-Series Chips are still C - C++ - Objective-C- Swift.  Apple does not allow NXU kernel runs.  Hence Rosetta.  You can test, but it won't pass Apple.
What the #@$ are you talking about?

  • Apple wants nearly every iPhone 18 sold in the US to come from India

The part of this article mentioning 12 hour shifts in the China factories and successful lobbying to get the same in India is not really flattering for Apple...

Interesting to see what labor rules will be implemented in the Apple US manufacturing.  ...oh, I forgot... That has to be robots only.

Ikea has stopped using disposable batteries, including the CR2032, in its devices.

Yet, the image here shows AAA batteries.
...which may be rechargeable. Ikea only sell rechargeable batteries.

I think it's time for the gloves to come off. honestly... this is a disgrace. How long are you guys across the pond (westwards, to be clear) watching this disaster unfolding?

Yes the US are very important for the whole world's economy, but there's limits to everything. We should stop this appeasing and just call out things what they are. The US government decided that diplomacy is no longer "in", so the rest of the world should not be trying to uphold principles towards the US that are not reciprocated.
“Time for the gloves to come off”.    LoL.  The EU has no technology.    Zero. Nothing.   That is why it spends all its time with bureaucracy  and trying to fine everyone

Go ahead and “take your gloves off”  LoL
    Technology isn't everything.

There is an EU document out there from the pandemic period analysing strategic dependencies between the EU and other countries/trading blocs.

The US was dependent on the EU for over 260 products.

The EU was dependent on the US for 15.

Areas where the EU was ahead included Advanced manufacturing, IoT, security, advanced materials, photonics and active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry.

Most of that happens to involve 'technology'.

“An EU document out there”.   LoL

The EU is a leader in NONE of those examples you give.   NONE.    You really think the EU leads the US in advanced materials?    What are you smoking.   I’m surprised you did not list Spotify as your leading tech company
Well, being ahead isn't everything.  :D
Well, whoever is the "leader" right now (and I will gladly admit the US has an overwhelming share of Nobel Prize winners), that will change once The Orange One is done dismantling the universities.

    Sad.

  • Artists claim Apple pays in goods instead of cash for Today at Apple sessions

    chasm said:
    1. Apple **is paying** the artists. They are giving them merchandise that would otherwise be sold, and whatever the wholesale value of that item is, that's what they're being paid. They are neither technically, legally, or actually "working for free." So they DO "value creatives."

Is this even legal, from a tax point of view?
  • DOJ goes after US citizen for developing anti-ICE app

Hmm, who could have guessed interfering with law enforcement efforts would be illegal? It's no different than attempting to block a police vehicle doing its duty to protect Americans against those who would do us harm. You know… gang members, drug dealers, convicted felons, cartel thugs, human traffickers, and so on.

And let's call out the specious idea that Ice Block is no different than a radar detector or warning drivers of a speed trap. A speed zone warning is an alert to POTENTIAL law breakers. Ice Block interferes with police efforts to apprehend individuals who have ALREADY BROKEN AT LEAST ONE LAW. Do you see the difference? Well do you?

Pardon me for using logic and pointing out the obvious. Now go ahead and hurl the Leftist phrases you learned from CNN.
It is exactly what I have bolded. Courts for decades have upheld the right of people to do exactly that. Apple Maps now will warn you of a speed trap, and the administration doesn't seem to care about that.

Why? Because it's legal. Because ruling after ruling, it's been ruled as protected by the first amendment.

So has freedom of the press, which is what the administration is apparently more pissed about.
    Totally different issues.

The key difference between the red light / speed trap warnings is that they help limit the POTENTIAL of committing a crime/violation - it's actually a great deterrent - whereas ICE raids are about addressing ALREADY COMMITTED crime/violations. You can't deter an already committed crime.

Speed trap warnings in Apple Maps are helpful to avoid breaking the law and getting busted for it. ICE maps apps are simply helping criminals get away with crime. Huge difference.

You don't aid and abet a criminal in escaping the police during a raid or chase. In the same way, you don't aid and abet illegal aliens to escape the law.

This is likely not going to go well for the maker of the app.
Are they really that different? If you are actually always driving at legal speeds, then you do not need the trap warnings. Reducing the speed thanks to the Apple Maps warning means you just committed a crime.

I won't throw the first stone, I admit to be guilty of doing this.
